Id like to join the Sig Brotherhood. I went to SIGS site and bought myself a birthday present. I bought a Kobra. It will be powered by a OS 25 FSR.

I think I may be on the look out for a SIG Liberty Sport Bipe kit. If I find one and have the cash it will go on my shelf for a future build. My friend has a Liberty, but not known if it is a SIG or not, he got it third hand and just recently got it balanced. Amazing what putting nose weight on can do.

G'day fella's I like the look of this kit, it was a nice surprise to see the retro style piggy stickers in the box, they look cool.
I bought my son a kadet snr at the same time, but he is only 11months so he may not build it for a while.
But the little bugger is running around already, and can say dad, mum and hello, so he may surprise me at how fast he can learn to build.

Well.... I've had unfortunate crashes before where it was just a total loss. Forgetting to strap a battery was the stupid loss of an 18 year old beautifuly fine tuned Ultimate. Well, my son got a puppy. Anyone who's ever been w a Lab pup knows where I'm headed. LOL. The Kadet is a total loss at 75% or so framed up. Yes, puppy's really LIKE balsa. Chews easy and feels good on the pup gums guess. I'm guessing the shop door in the back of the basement was not closed all the way. I'm counting blessings it wasn't the P51.
Well, to start over. *head hanging* Hope I can find another Kadet SR

Outstanding idea, Bill - I like that a LOT!! Wish I'd done something like that myself, never thought about it - not for even an instant. That's OK though, turned out the son discovered his talent in the kitchen - he's now a chef that's paid enough that he could support me in the manner to which I'd like to become accustomed.

...and I get to keep all the planes.

Hmmmm, guess trees aren't the only things that think balsa tastes like chicken. Truly sorry 'bout the Kadet Sr, but they're still VERY available.

Went flying today, first day of the year. LT-40 was up first, for some odd reason I had to retrim it, kept nosing down, and the rudder was off so it drifted left. Once I got her trimmed, did a couple touch and goes, some low level passes, and some hammer heads and loops. I haven't lost my touch. Winds were still light so I got the 4*120 out, ran up the engine a bit, and everything seemed fine, so up it went, was doing some stuff with it when I noticed it burping at 3/4 throttle, and then it stalled out. First day flying, first dead stick of the year. That damned plane did not want to land, I darn near ran out of runway and it was heading for a pile of steel I-beams, so I yanked up and left, and finally stalled it to where I could land it.

I found I had to tweak the needls rich just a hair and then it ran fine through the full range, so up it went again. This time I flipped it, spun it, tumbled it, rolled it, man what a blast this plane is, then I had to land. 4 attempts before I finally got it to slow down enough to land, If I lower the idle anymore the engine will stall out, and its not going very fast either. Maybe I need to change the Flaperons to Spoilerons! The first couple times no flaps, then I set them to mid flap position which slowed it enough but then I bounced it 3 times, ran out of runway and hit the power and climbed out. Does that qualify as 3 touch and goes? Brought it around again, this time full flaps and finally got it down with one bounce. I need to work on my landings with this one, its still floaty even with it being tail heavy. When it was nose heavy, it would slam into the ground. I guess, just a bit out of practice since end of last year I was greasing it in smoothly. The LT-40 lands gracefully, smooth as silk, tail up, and then slowly drops it.

I found I need to ream out the rudder push rod tube, the rudder is a bit sticky still. I guess when I inserted the tube in the fuse the hole was a bit small so it pinches the tube so it binds a bit. You can tell when I use rudder, the tail wags when I release it.

All in all a very enjoyable morning, 4 flights, no mishaps other than a dead stick. It was a SIG morning for me.

Awesome!!! Excited for you and look forward to hearing how it goes. Always wanted to build one... Just like in the ad.

Forget searching LHS this time.. Just ordering another Kadet. LOL. Why do I love that plane so?
Why can I not use a touch screen key pad? The world will never know and I will be remembered for my typos. LOL.

Im going to build the Kobra to look like 1 of the Blue Angles planes. Navy blue with yellow accents. I need to finish the Ultra Sport 40 with twin 25 FSRs that my grandson and I are working on. The US 2-25 will be in Seahawks colors as per the grandsons wishes.

What prop pitch are you running on the 4Star120? A lower pitch should slow it down some.

Lordy you do bring up memories! I was building a Super Stinker and my boy used the top wing for a hammer. I rebuilt the wing and had just finished it when the wife decided the kids needed some puppies. They got the bottom wing. It took me 14 months to make that Super Stinker fly...

Another beautiful Sunday afternoon. I took another rare day off work(well almost, had to go in for an hour) and seeing as how it's also my birthday my wife and daughters said it could do what ever I wanted and they wouldn't mind. So.....

The flaps and ailerons for my Kadet Seniorita are almost done, Lil Rascal #1 is almost back together and being joined by Lil Rascal #2. I pulled my stack of unstarted kits out and added my newest acquisition to the collection, an early run, unstarted Komander kit. I unpacked the Komander, which felt almost criminal, and examined it carefully. It should be pretty easy to draw up a set of plans off of the print wood and reverse engineer a built-up wing. I would really hate to see the Komander design die out when the remaining kits get built.

Mike Gretz, two questions for you if you happen to see this;
#1 Who should I talk to at SIG about the possibility of getting permission/authorization to duplicate the Komander. I have no intention of doing it for profit or gain, just to keep a good design alive.
#2 I see a Mike Gretz associated with the Antique Airfield Facebook page, you wouldn't happen to be one and the same would you?

Email me at [email protected] about the Komander.

Yes that's me. Antique Airfield is only about 50 miles from my house, and my wife and I both spend lots of volunteer time down there working in the museum, etc. In fact we were down there this past weekend. A fun place, and nearly every full-scale pilot that attends their annual Fly-In built model airplanes at one time or another.

Mike
