Can I get a number? I built a quarter scale Cub about 1980 when they first came out. The kit was $90 bucks. I powered it with a Kraft 61 and it flew very scale like. Almost too scale like. I have since built a Swizzle Stik, and 2 of the old Phaetan bipes. I have been looking at getting one of the new Phaeton bipes for my new Ebay find. An O.S. 46SF. I have one pic of my second bipe I will put up. And thanks for the Tempo pic. I was always fond of parasol planes. I even scratch built a Pietenpol for the Small Steps flyin ran by Randy Randolf.

Welcome aboard ratshooter, BTW do you actually shoot rats, I bought some rat shot for a 22 mag but never got round to using it.
SDM you are at #68, post a pic and your name goes in.

3136 I have shot a bunch of rats. At my old house I had a pecan tree and a fig tree that were both rat magnets. I had a couple of chow dogs but not at the same time and I can tell you without reservation those are the rat huntin' est dogs I have ever seen. I kept a 22 rifle loaded with CB 22s and a flashlight ready to go. Both of those dogs barked "funny' when they had a rat treed. I would wake up from a dead sleep and say "Chopper's got a rat". And a rat hunting I would go. I told the guys at the gun store about my rat hunting escopades and they gave me the name "Tom the ratshooter". I liked it and use that same moniker on the gun forums I am on. And just so you know I killed way over 200 hundred rats before I stopped counting. I also killed over 200 hundred squirrels from the same two trees before I stopped keeping count.

I love to hunt and having a ready source of targets in my backyard was a huge thrill.

I have since moved and have absolutly nothing to kill here. Plus I have mellowed a little and am not so hot to kill anymore. Even rats are fun to watch. And they are animals with qualitys you don't know they have.

And thank you for the number. 69 is one of my favorite numbers. 357 is my lucky number.

If i get inspired I will post a pic of me with the quarter scale Cub back about 1982. I will have to find the photo and I hope you guys don't laugh at my skinny butt. I loved that plane. It was about all I flew for a solid year. Just a big powered glider but what a hoot it was.

Hey ratshooter, sounds like you had a lot of fun there. I don't have a property to shoot on anymore either, I miss that. I'm in the city now.
You'll probably laugh, but I used to hunt rabbits with a .243 (didn't want the meat)

3136 I have no problem with you hunting rabbits with a 243. I beleive you folks were once overun with rabbits and being able to knock them off at ranges way past what a 22 or 22mag can do is a plus if you are getting rid of pest. I actually had a rabbit problem at my new house. But I solved it in my normal manner. I have ate rabbit before but really don't care for it. I have cleaned too many that had worms and spotted livers to risk eating them.

Thanks for the number. Now that I am about caught up with work I will scan a pic of my quarter scale BUSA cub. I gotta warn ya, this wa around 1982 and I was a skinny little fart at the time. But I really liked flying that plane. I was poor at the time and just used my not so old Kraft KP-4 radio for contol. One aileron servo, one elevator servo and one rudder servo. The idea of two servos for the ailerons never crossed my mind and besides Kraft servos were $25 bucks a pop. Plus tax. Twenty five bucks would buy about 16 six packs of Coors beer. Choices were tough.

Thanks for the cool thread. I sure wish BUSA would make plans for the Tempo available. Like I stated I like parasol planes. I almost bought a Grega GN-1 parasol plane. Sort of a wide body Pietenpol plane. But the seller backed out of the deal. I would have probably killed myself anyway. Oh well.

Down here beer is packaged in "slabs" which contains 4 six packs.
So 4 slabs or a servo, damn that would have been a hard choice, modelers back then must have been committed.

If you like parasol wings you could do the Fokker D8

3136 here is one of the parasol planes I scratch built. It has a TT 25 on it. I scaled it up from a 7" wingspan line drawing in M.A.N. many yeras ago.

Fiberglass specialties has them here. Not sure on the BUSA though. Not sure I would replace it with stock ABS anyway. http://www.fiberglassspecialtiesinc.com/catalog.htm

I don't have an exact ID but the BUSA site shows 10,1/2 inches, the ABS is pretty thin so ID wouldn't be much less.

3136,

Fooey on me . . . . as many times as I've been to that site and not remembered that that dimension was referenced.

But thanks for the answer . . . as there is one for sale in the ads.

I know there is a vast wealth of knowledge from you guys on this thread so maybe you can help me. Does anyone know if there were any Pups that flew with the American 25th Aero Squadon? I'm trying to find some pictures or drawings if you know of any. I am getting ready to start building a 1/4 BUSA Pup and have the decals for the BUSA SE5. I'd like to use the roundels if there was a Pup that flew with these markings. Anyone know?

I heard somebody mention that a 1/4 scale Camel is on it's way from Balsa USA. Any truth to that?

Yes, there was a couple of pics a year or so ago. There were comments of some that saw it fly last year at a fly in. I am sure they are creating a manual now or something. That is the hard part! lol

I saw the model of the Camelat the last Wram show if I am not mistaken. Anyway, I was told it was coming this fall... What we really, really need is a 1/4 scale Albatross, and at this point of my life, I take any of them:-) 1/3 is just too big for me...

they were taking orders at the Nall for the Camel. Apparently very close to shipping, they said.
