Minwax has Polyurethane, which is oil based and fuel resistant. It has Polycrylic which is water based, and isn't.

I also have a framed DVII. Will finish that one after the cub. The Fokker will be colorful (LOTHAR's mount) yellow, red, white, lozenge. Electric power most likely
I found a color of Rust-O-Leum that's close to cub yellow, its golden sunset. Got it at Wallmart for $2 a can. Its cheep so you can spray some on a small piece of covering to see if it matches.

Light ply on at least the step glassed makes good sence thanks!

Not sure but might be able to do a build thread. May take a bit beings I work so much. But it will include a bit of glassing.

Please add me to the Balsa USA Brotherhood. Does anyone make fiberglass parts for the Balsa USA models? Is Fiberglass Specialties still in business? Thanks. Chic

First modification is in the books. I think I will sheet the bottom of the aileron. I always thought it was a bit easy to distort. I have never noticed a problem during flying, but I am going to do it anyway.

Default Wing tip ailerons.

How effective are/were the wing tip ailerons? TIA.

They were much more responsive than I thought they would be. Rolls are easy. I just think they are a bit easy to distort so I will add the solid sheet on the bottom.
My first DVII shows a few rolls and loops. I think it is one of the best flying warbirds for WWI airplanes.

Redtail, Do you fly a Balsa USA airplane or building one? To be part of this group, you must fly or built one of their kits. This is the rule that was established long before I took over managing the thread. Posting a picture of your plane is required also. I am proud to be part of this wonderful group of modelers.

Rich,
Thank you for asking about my wanting to join the Brotherhood. Yes, I have a Balsa USA kit. I have a 1/4 scale Spad 13 kit I am going to modify from a Spad 13 to a Spad 7. I want to model the Spad 13 after the Spad 7 that the American, Eugene Bullard, a Black American, flew when he went to Europe to fight, first in the Foreign Legion, then in the French flying corp once he was injured. He flew with the French flying corp until the Americans came to join in the war. The Americans told the French that they had to relieve Bullard of his flying duties or they would not join the fight.

P.S. I am building the Charlie Kellogg TBF Avenger on the Warbird and Warplane Forum here on RCU.

Thanks Chic for responding. That's great! I built the Spad 13, very nice airplane. Will you be doing a construction thread, at least post a picture of your kit or work.

Thanks

Rich,
Nice looking airframe. Did you do a construction thread that "I" can follow during my build? What did you power it with? Did you split the top wing into 3 parts? Was asking about the fiberglass parts and I called Fiberglassspecialitics and did not receive a response. Did you use their cowl, valve covers, etc.? I will certainly do a build thread if you think I should since I am going to do some modifying. Did I get accepted to the Brotherhood? Again, thanks. Chic

Welcome to the Brotherhood, Redtail, please post a picture of your Spad when you begin the build. The BUSA Spad is a challenging build, just read the instruction carefully and take your time. I did a construction article on RC Scale Builder.com, titled "Building the BUSA SPAD 13" in the Forum section, Balsa USA Kits, Page 5. The kit took me a long time to finish it because of health issues, it did turn out looking great. I sold it to a friend who needed a WWI airplane for a big Dawn Patrol event in Minnesota. Here is a picture

It would be helpful for me if all BUSA Brothers would post theirBUSA Brotherhood number in their signature. If I have missed anyone please let me know.

Rob....Nice DVII.

Top wing mostly built. I went ahead and added the leading edge cutouts. What the heck, it's either scale or its not. And here is the set up for the ball and cup "N" strut attachments. The ball, the cup and how it should look after the part is covered. It just screws into each strut end. Not perfect scale, but the attempt is there.

Doc, Can't you see the last list I posted Nov. 13 and the last new member was #148. Once before folk were having problem the complete list, that was a RCU problem.

Default Dvii

Hello All,

I am working on a 1/3rd scale D-VII and I am looking for the perfect motor for it. I figured this would be a good place to ask. I would like to find the best option for the least vibration. I have been looking at 4 stroke gas twins but I have not found one yet that would fit in the fuse and have good power. Any suggestions and or experiences of any kind would be welcomed and appreciated. Just looking for the least vibration, best fit, and good power.

Thanks!!
