If you already have a G-38 it should work fine. I'm using a 30 in my N-28 and a 41 in my Spad.

I have the G-38 in mine, it has plenty of power and the spring starter is a great help for me. The DLE 55 will work in this airplane just move the fire wall back.

Depends on the altitude, but the only regrets I have had on engine choice is going too small. The DLE 55 replaced my G 38, and this was the first season with that engine. It has become an entirely different airplane, and I had no less than 10 fellow warbird pilots around my state comment on the improvement. The rear exhaust, rear carb configuration make it an easy install.

I recently acquired a BUSA 1/4 scale Fokker DR1. By the measurements of the mounting holes and the Zenoah sticker on the firewall I've determined it had a G26 in it before. I have some DLE 30s laying around for other projects but it seems I would have to move the firewall back. I can go a couple routes, either buy a G26 EI or go electric. I need some opinions, I'd rather just buy a new engine (gas or electric) than hack away at the firewall. If anybody has done electric what have you done to have easy access to the LiPo?

So it sounds like for the d7 engine it depends on your type of flying. I like to fly slow on the wing with this type of plane.

This plane is on my "list". I have zero experience with the DVII, but I plan on using the 1.8. Whatever I give up in terms of power and performance, I feel I will make up for simply in terms of sound. The gas engines are probably better choices, but I think the 4 strokes sound so much better. It's always a little disappointing to me to see a beautiful scale bird, then have it start up and sound like my chain saw.

Wow, that is an incredible resource of data there. I'm not building a Pup right now, but have one planned for latter on. I'm getting geared up for a BUSA 1/4 Fokker D-VII build. Does anybody know of a resource of reference data similar to this one here that can be used in detailing the D-VII???

Thanks Mark, I made this pulley last night for the elevator cables just like in the full scale pup. One set of cables comes off the back of the stick and wraps around the pulley and out through the center of the horizontal tube that the stick is connected to and the other set comes off the front of the stick.

Below is the actual cabling diagram for the controls.

Thanks. Between being the Forum Manager (make that read I have to read I spend a huge amount of time in the background taking care of things around here) of RCU, and running two businesses with my wife, and taking care of my normal every day flying sometimes I don't look to take that time to do search for info like I should, so I try to find the easiest way that I can. So I really appreciate the assist that you gave to me and I'll definitely follow up on it and see if I can dig up any info on the D-VII on the level that you posted about the Pup. I am a data "horder", if there is such a thing. When you posted your info about Pup I immediately sucked it in and stashed it for future use, I did that because I definitely have a BUSA Pup (not sure what size yet) on my list of planes that I'm going to build. Even if I hadn't planned on building the plane I would still have absorbed the data, that way I can have it ready for others down the road taht may be looking for data on teh Pup. In fact, on of our Moderators and a very good friend Jim Buzzeo(username 74894) is currently building a BUSA 1/3 Sopwith Pup so I immediately sent him a link to your post in case he missed it.

On a side note, after the annual Toledo show I got the chance to travel back to Jim's home to take care of his brother's (Mike Buzzeo, Minnflyer, may he rest in peace) belongings. And I have to say that I'm very jealous of Jim's building room. Since Jim is now single in his low 50's with a house that is paid for that has a wood floor that is dead on smack dab flat Jim uses the floor as he his building board. I walk into his house and there is the bones of a Sopwith fuselage laid out on the middle of the living room. We wiggled around it and I camped out on the sofa. Damn that was cool!! that's how all building areas should be!!!!!

But I digress Andy. I thank you for the data source and I'll search a little deeper and see if I can find what I'm looking for on the D-VII and a Eindecker EIII. I'm building an SR Batteries Eindecker Focker EIII as well. Both planes were flown by Ernst Udet in WWI and I'm doing both of them in his colors, and plan to have Best Pilots figures of Ernst Udet in both of them!!

I know what you mean about spending the time to do the research. I have two 1/3 scale Pups, One I bought at a swap meet in Moore, OK when I lived in Norman. I lived in Norman for 9 years and then a job change brought me to Fort Wayne IN. The other pup was given to me by a friend who bought it a couple of years ago and then decided that he did feel his building skill level was up to the challenge of making the construction repairs to this air frame (this is the one I'm posting pictures of in this thread. I tore out most of the BUSA framing and I started to make it more scale. I know the airfoil will not be scale but I do have the scale airfoil no so I might change that and use the wood from the other kit to frame up a very scale version. I have hundreds of framing pictures of various Pups so it's nice to have the actual drawings with scale sizes on them. That'll cut down on a lot of the guesswork.

If you search long enough, sometimes you get lucky. I'll see if I can find anything for your DVII. If I do, I'll post it here.
