Sig sells an aluminum wing mount. You can use this if you have dihedral. I am using this mount system on a giant Stuka. Should solve your problem.

For some reason it will not post the direct link to the product. You will have to search the site for wing joiner, under aircraft accessories, then wing mounting.

For 'plug-in' lower wings just epoxy music wire stubs into spars and have brass tubes in fuselage to receive them. The rigging needs to be functional. Then you fabricate a more robust landing gear.

blades and sockets work just as well as tubes and you can still do dihedral with Blades.
And just to keep from confusing people when we're all asking questions and talking about wing mounting methods. A 2 piece wing is just like a one piece wing except it's 2 pieces, you still have to bolt the wing to the hole in the middle of the fuse after you put the wing halves together. What you guys wan,t and are talking about are plug in wings.

Essentially, the Sig mounts are "blades". I am actually describing a 3 piece wing in all actuality. Just like how the full scale was done really, except a different mounting method. The last 2 wings I have built are 3 piece. Very handy for these big planes.

Ok, I am attaching some photos. I think for your application, only one mount would be needed per side. I would still add a 1/4" anti rotation pin near the trailing edge though, so it will index properly. The Stuka wing is somewhat complicated to make 3 piece, as it has that inverted gull configuration. You will need to mount your aluminum plate to accommodate your dihedral angle.

Here are pics of my Spacewalker ll with aluminum blade joiners for it's 3 piece wing. The wing center section and LG bolt to the fuse .

I would like to join up. I have several B-USA kits as well as other WW1 aircraft. Any thing to promote WW1 modelling, I'm in. I have been in awe of those WW1 pilots since I was a kid.

Ok, so it should not be that hard to make a bottom wing change. I have built the 1/3 scale Spacewalker, and understand the set up. Now on to the next area of problem with the build. The ailerons have a gap at the wing tip. As a stand off model it is not a problem. But I think it needs to be looked at. A more scale way of connecting the wing to the aileron is something I want to explore. And thanks for all the great ideas for the wing mods.

Hey jeffEE! (I met you at the paynesville corn roast this past summer... saw your "prototype" D7 .. very nice work!)
are you thinking something like this for scale aileron hinging?
http://www.largemodelassociation.com...r-scale-model/
about 1/3 the way down the article he's got some scale hinge detailing...
I'm in SUCH a quandary... I can't decide on the BUSA D-7 or DR-1 for my next project... (my Pup is getting close )

Whether you"re talking 1/4 or 1/3 scale, the DR-1 is the easier build. Have you considered a GTM Fokker D-6? I saw a fellow flying one at MAD and it was impressive.

Im surprised that no one here yet has mentioned the 1/3rd scale Ercoupe kit by BUSA... Im hoping to purchase this kit in the very near future and came here thinking at least one of you would have build one and could tell me how you liked this kit... but i just went through the whole thread and no ercoupes!!! WOW!! I have owned a full scale ercoupe as i would like to make a twin of it 1/3rd scale size...
anyone have any comments here on this kit????
Thanks

actually I didn't even realize GTM makes a D-VI ... I'm thinking his ordering web site might not be fully updated, all he's got is an SE-5 for online ordering right now.
I would certainly consider one... I've been perusing Lou Proctor's site lately too... ooo descisions...

flyierjon.... I've got a couple hundred hours in an old Ercoupe... (full scale) didn't like it. :-/
(of course that may well have been the funky aileron / rudder interconnect) I'd bet the BUSA Kit flies beautifully at any rate.

You might also want to check out the Ron Weiss plans and short kits from Nick Ziroli. There were at least 6 guys flying 1/3 scale D8's that were built off Ron Weiss plans and maybe a couple of DR-1's from Ron Weiss also. They flew great and were impressive. One day I plan to build Pfaltz DIII from Arizona Modelers. Bruno Stackel, here I come!

I don't think I have seen the 1/3 scale Ercoupe in years. When I was in Germany, there two at an event I attended, both looked great & flew very impressive. It is a very old kit. Should you build the kit, I am sure you will get a lot of advice from the forums and the guys at BUSA are a great help. You need to do a construction thread. I think if you call Balsa USA and talk with the tech support folks, they can give you some insight. I built the 1/3 scale Fly Baby Biplane in '82, about the same time frame as the Ercoupe, and it was straight forward construction. As with all BUSA kits you can add as much scale details you want during the build. Maybe some of the other old timers can chimp in.

OK brutha's, I need your opinions. I'm building a BUSA QS Camel. I already have a Snoopy with flying gear but I'm starting to think I might want a Canadian pilot like Dudley Doright or even Horse. So lets have an opinion poll. Snoopy, Dudley, or Horse?

Jim, thanks for the kind words about the V11 prototype. I have built both DVII and DRI's and never thought the DRI was the easy build. But each to their own. I tell all the flyers I meet about the Corn roast. It was truly a nice field and a GREAT bunch of people. ( darn good food also). I just e-mailed Proctor about a DVII kit. He said that he builds each kit after its ordered and it takes about 10 weeks to get one done. But boy oh boy they are the cream of the crop!
Karp050, Arizona Models....I have never read a good comment about their kits. Again, each to their own. Perhaps you will have better luck than others and its true that there are 1000 bad comments for every good one. The Pfaltz is a nice airframe with lots of colors to pick from. Perhaps a build thread if you go that route?

I would love to build a Ercoupe one day, but the price tag on it keeps it in my "want" list instead of on my "on the shelf" list. Someday I'll hopefully have one though.

If GTM does not list an item on his site, then it is not available. Unfortunately, he has all but dropped his entire product line.
