Here is your number and welcome to the brotherhood. Will you be doing a construction thread on your build? At least post some pictures of your progress. You will find that there are a lot of helpful ideas on these construction threads, on this site and RCSB.

It would be helpful for me if all BUSA Brothers would post their BUSA Brotherhood number in their signature. If I have missed anyone please let me know.

Doing some pre-build research. If you were going to build a Balsa USA Nieuport 17 and try to use a Gasoline engine with hopes to fit it inside the supplied cowling, what engine manufacturer and size would you suggest?

I've fallen in love with the NGH 38cc gas four stroke but with that engine you'll have to recess the firewall. You cant go wrong with a G-26 and a pitts muffler. BTW, I'm assuming you're talking quarter scale. If it's 1/3rd scale then a G-62 for sure!

I am in the process of redoing the detailing on my 1/4 scale Newport 11. Other then Procter does anybody have a good source for rigging, fittings, turnbuckle, etc.?

Thanks,
Brad

If 1:4 scale I recommend OS GT22, quite, smooth and easy starting

Thanks for the suggestions. I unfortunately forgot to mention that the engine suggestions that I need are for the 1/6th scale Balsa USA Nieuport 17.

Having joined the BUSA Brotherhood, I thought I would introduce myself. I am currently flying a BUSA 1/3 scale Nieuport 28. The N28 is done in Eddie Rickenbacker’s white #12(6159). I am currently building a 1/3 scale BUSA Albatros DV. I will finish it in Paul Baumer’s Edelweiss colors. The picture of my N28 was taken by Mike Pennell at DPR 2014 in Dayton, Ohio.

Hey guys, you should take some time to read Doc's construction threads on RC Scale Builder.com. You will be impressed with his work and I'm sure you will learn something. He builds beautiful airplanes.

Balsa USA known for its WW1 classics but they also kit a 1/4 scale J3 that makes a pretty nice super cub, here's one in the bones being done scale. Powered by a DLE 30cc and has a wing tube to aid field assembly.

Rich, thanks for the kind words. You talked to me about a Dawn Patrol in Arkansas at Dayton. Can you send me the details about it.

Doc, yes those little pieces of yellow paper are my memory. You can not see all of them but there are four of them on the fuse

Leroy, I built a BUSA Cub(not Super Cub) a few years back but it was built to the plans and did not have all the great scale detailing on it as yours does. Great build! What other scale details are you planning for your Super Cub?

Doc S It gets the works, stitches, screws, rivets, corrugated flaps and ailerons, inspection rings, finished cabin / cockpit and what ever else the real plane has on it, It's being built right here in kit building. Thanks for the nice comment .

Regarding the 1/6 scale Nieuport 17, I have the 1/6 scale VK model, which is probably lighter. I flew it on a PAW 40 diesel with a 13x6 prop turning 7000+ rpm. Plenty of power; it can do things the full scale could not. The BUSA one will probably come out a little heavier. Keep it as light as you can in the tail, mount a battery box on the front of the firewall and mount all servos as far forward as possible.

Any 45 2 stroke will fly it even over-propped. Most will swing a 13x4 prop. They will not make their top power that way, but they will still make much more power than my 40 size diesel. If you want a four stroke you have to make a special firewall so you can recess the engine. I have no idea how a small gasoline motor would fit. Whatever engine you use, you will not need a lot of speed, so pick a prop with a large diameter and low pitch.

Doc, the War Birds Over Arkansas is a very laid back event, great people, a very nice area to bring the wife to shop and sight see. I'll email you about both events. The Okieland Dawn Patrol is for WW I aircraft only, any size. This will be our first year for this type event. We hope this event will draw WW I flyers from the surrounding states, it is planned as an annual event.

Talk to you soon

Rich, not sure what's going to be happening in July but when y'all get a flyer ready be sure to e-mail me one please. There's a Scale Masters Qualifier in Fort Worth in early June and I may go see if it's any fun. We're working on getting the house ready to list and who knows when there might be a move going on.

Doc, you may want to consider moving south, where the winters are not so harsh. I'll keep you updated on the events.

Hi, I don't own a BUSA kit yet. The main reason is that i am going to build a PUP but BUSA doesn't have the correct flying wires. Mick Reeves sells the flat wires that Sopwith used but I don't know if I can adapt them to a BUSA kit. (the cost of a Reweves 1/4 pup works out to over $775 w/shipping, but without the scale cockpit or scale Le Rhone engine. does anyone know if the Reeves wires can be adapted to the BUSA 1/4 scale pup kit

Here is a site featuring flat rigging wires. Maybe a source for wire for your application? Good luck

I'm sure the Reeves wires can be made to work, It really depends on your skill level, if this is your first WWI build or first scale build you might want to keep it simple. The BUSA 1/4 scale Pup doesn't require wires to be flight worthy and I'm not sure they are even included but they are a nice touch. If added you want to make sure the anchor points are real secure though because once added the wires will cause things to happen that normally don't if you have an incident.

I didn't use wire rigging, they are not needed. I use elastic line to give to look of the rigging. It is easy to hook up to hooks at the scale location. This is my 1/4 scale Balsa USA Sopwith Pup.

What size pilot for the Eindecker 90 ? Tower Hobbies has two and they are 1/5 and 1/4 scale. Wondering if anybody has one of these mounted in their models ?
