I/5 scale pilot would be more appropriate........a 1/4 scale Eindecker would be about 100" wing span and the BUSA Eindecker is 80".

Hi,
My name is Bill and I'm finishing up a 1/4 scale BUSA Sopwith PUP. I'll post a picture soon, many I please join the group?

I have a couple of questions: I have is I bought the separate Vickers Machine gun kit, I seem to have misplaced some of the machine gun instructions and now I'm trying to mount it to the plane. When I look at the plans the machine gun is mounted on a "low" balsa mount that works with the original simple suggested dowel machine gun, but with the Vickers gun the lower piece of the Cocking Handle doesn't fit. So is the mounted higher or is the gun shifted back far enough so the lower section of the handle fits in the cockpit opening?

TIA

- Bill -

Also I forgot to ask, with the Vickers gun kit how to you mount the "windshield"?

bschetz, welcome to the Brotherhood. I'll check some of the pictures from my Pup build for the information on the gun & windshield. What gun are you using? Balsa USA or Williams Brothers? I have a construction thread on http://www.rcscalebuilder.com/forum/...sp?FID=45&PN=3 , you should read some of the construction threads on RCScaleBuilder.com. Lots of good info.
Your number is 105, post some pictures of your Pup, we would like to see them. What are you using for power? You will love how it flys, a very enjoyable airplane.

It would be helpful for me if all BUSA Brothers would post their BUSA Brotherhood number in their signature. If I have missed anyone please let me know.

I cant say anything about the windscreen but as far as the cocking handle just modify it so the gun will fit where it belongs, there were several different mechanisms on the Vickers and the one Wms Bros designed (way back when) has a cocking handle and lever that doesn't fit many airplanes, prolly an infantry version where nothing was in the way.

I don't have any pictures of how the gun is mounted. I used the Williams Brothers guns, I epoxied a 6x32 bolt into the bottom of the gun housing and drilled the holes in the top re-enforced stringer and then put a nut on it. The mounting of the windshield is on a ply tab that is mounted with two wood screws. Mount the windshield first then mount the gun.

Hope this helps

Please add me to the brotherhood. I'm finally building an EAA biplane purchased 30 years ago. Straight up sport flying with ailerons added to the top wing.

Hi all,
sign me up for the BUSA brotherhood. I have built three kits, Dove, EAA biplane and am building the DVII now in 1/4 scale. I was going to use the NGH38 for power but after reading some of the comments and talking with Jeff feel i may be a little underpowered.
Not sure what to do.
Attached is my EAA and where i am with the DVII.
thanks, Paul

Welcome Paul, nice looking EAA biplane and Fokker D VII. From I have read, I think you are correct, the power may not be enough with the NGH 38. I have built two BUSA Fokker D VIIs, and I powered both with the Zenoah 38 using a Master airscrew Simatar 20x8 Prop. Both planes weigh between 22 - 24 pounds, has plenty of power. Please post more picture of your progress and maiden flight of your Fokker.
Here are some pictures of my Fokkers, these are the best flying airplanes I have had.

Thanks again for your help.

Just getting back to working on my BUSA 1/3 Moraine Saulnier and I was wondering what any of you may have done to install linkages for the elevators. If I'm not mistaking
the full scale elevator and rudder linkage controls were located internal to the fuse. I'm trying to design a heavy metal piece of music wire that will be u-shaped to join both halves of the elevator with a piece of brass plate between the two, shaped as a control horn and drilled for the internal linkage to attach the servo. I have used silver solder to attach the brass control horn and it feels pretty strong. Has anyone tried this or do any of you have any ideas for a better setup? Thanks for the help.

Can't help you with the linkages, but you got me thinking when you said they were internal on the full scale, so I checked my photos of the one at Rhinebeck, and sure enough, no external control horns or wires. I'd never noticed that. It was a fast plane for 150 hp and 1918. Here's what I found in my photos...

Master airscrew have wood scimiter props (sometimes limited avail) with less sweep than Zoar, and less expensive also. Whatever your preference. Good luck.

I have built several BUSA planes. One was a DR-1. Great planes to build. I would like to join the brotherhood. Thanks. Mike

Welcome Mike, you got a number. I have also built several BUSA kits, I have not built the DR 1 yet but I do have the 1/4 scale waiting. How about posting some photos of your BUSA airplanes. If you have questions, you have come to the right place, these guys are always willing to help and they are very talented group.

It would be helpful for me if all BUSA Brothers would post their BUSA Brotherhood number in their signature. If I have missed anyone please let me know.

Yuppers, I have used both Master Airscrew and Zoar. As a matter of fact, I have both on my supply shelf. Guess it will just be a flip of the coin in which one I use.

OK everyone,

I'm finishing up my 1/4 scale Sopwith Pup, I still have some painting and clean-up to do, but I want to get the maiden flight in first. I am powering mine with a HK-20cc gasser, and I was wondering what the average/normal amount of nose weight required to get these to balance?
