Finished up my BUSA 1/6 scale Nieuport 28C to the point of being flyable during the week but had to wait until early Monday morning for anything less than 15-20 mph gusty winds! This morning it was overcast and a light breeze out of the south-southwest. I had a couple of hours to try and test fly before family arrived for memorial day activities. I had gotten the engine running well the day before but it wasn't happy when I tried it at the field. It took a while to remove the cowling to make adjustments but after that it ran better. The KVMA club photographer was there and got some in flight pictures and made a wonderful video (thanks Joe!). It needed a fair amount of down trim to keep it from climbing but other than that it was pretty well set. It certainly isn't overpowered with the Saito 50 but it may need further adjustment and tuning. Landing was pretty straight forward and didn't seem to want to nose over as my other WWI planes do.

Video can be found here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHk7...ature=youtu.be

Its true most BUSA airplanes need a bit of positive incidence in the stab, difficult if glued on but easy to do while building if you know about it. A lot of guys mix down elevator with the throttle to compensate.

Hey Navy, what does your Spad weigh and what engine are you running? I have my BUSA Spad almost finished and hope to have it flying before July 4th. Would you like to belong to the Balsa USA Brotherhood?

I think it weighs around 28 pounds and Flys pretty scale like with a g38. I might be off with the weight it has been a couple of years since I put it on a scale. I would be honored to be added to the list.
Thanks.

That sound good, I plan to use a Zenoah 38 as well, I have not weighed mine yet. Welcome to the Brotherhood, if you don't mind I'll just list your name as Navy and your home town.

again welcome post as many pictures and share your ideas.

It would be helpful for me if all BUSA Brothers would post their BUSA Brotherhood number in their signature. If I have missed anyone please let me know.

I am in the midst of rebuilding my Camel. Amongst other things, I'm moving the engine forward to achieve balance. It won't look scale but it also won't weigh a ton or fly like a drunken whale.

I ordered and received a BUSA Stearman a month or so ago. Started last night identifying parts. If anybody has built one and has any advice please share. Here is the intended one I'm doing. Plan to work on it as I have time this summer, and then this winter. Flying next summer.

Jim, you will love the way it flys. With a few details it can be a great stand-off scale model. Are you going to do a construction thread, we would like to follow your build.

Rich,

Given my hectic work schedule I'm not sure I can pull off a build thread but will definitely keep updates posted here. I am taking pictures along the way so if I get time I may start a thread.

Here's a fun photo from just this last weekend down in Trenton, Ohio (just a bit north of Cincinnati).

New GoPro camera mounted to my 1/4 BUSA Sopwith Pup. We also had a 1/4 BUSA Nieuport 28, 1/4 BUSA Fokker Dr.I, a 1/3 BUSA Nieuport 17 and just out of the picture here, a 1/4 BUSA SE5a.

Got some cleanup to do on the camera mount to cut down on the vibrations, but I'm already looking forward to this year's flying!!

For a good idea of the closeness of the models look at the shadows on the ground, awesome shot.

Gearing up for warbirds over Delaware and decided to give the ole DR 1 a make over. Great plane but found several issues that needed to be fixed. A few more days till in the shop and will be ready to re test fly.

January 1, 2010 Billy Jameson and I flew a little combat with my Pup and Dr-1. Whoever landed last won the battle. I flew the Pup and Billy flew the Dr-1. We got so close we slapped ailerons but still managed to land the aircraft without major damage. Snoopy, flying the Pup, won the battle. Now that's close!
