Well my chippy found a new home as our club weather vane. Birds are nesting in the cowl this spring.

this is don"s custum models super chipmunk , built in the mid 70 "s .this model was featured on cover of RCM Modeler June 1983. the super chipmunk was flown at circus circus tournament of champions inaugural in Las Vegas. the model was stored for decades ,was finished in hobby poxy paint. .I got it 2 weeks ago ,and it is going under restoration by me. this is a 1/4 scale 100 inch wing span fiberglass fuse foam sheeted and glassed wing . removed old futaba servos, installed new hitec servos, new DLE 55 MOTOR ,radio spectrum 18 ch , rx 9 ch spectrum.I will upload restoration progress soon.

Just completed building the Goldberg kit no more than an hour ago. Now on to covering. I'm going with the red, white and blue as it's on the box.
I've had this kit for about 5 years. Prior to that in was in a fellow club member's collection for 15 years or so.
Surprisingly, only one broken part. No.13 rib lol.
I found a couple discrepancies in the build but it went fairly well. I've built a number of kits and this one was pretty quick.
I'm going electric so I built a hatch just forward of the canopy to just aft of it.
I can't wait to get this thing up in the air. I hope it performs as good as it's hype.

Thanks. The wing is a challenge to cover..I'm sure it will be worth the effort.

After about 3 years of building (Tuesday nights and a few Sats in the club room), I finally finished my CG Super Chipmunk this past summer. During the first flight I could not make the plane tip stall, I can not believe how stable this plane is too fly! I have dual aileron servos and a direct drive rudder servo setup using the RDS system. Its a little slow being powered by an inverted OS70 with onboard glow.

TB,
Nice job on your Chipmunk
I'm thinking about using the RDS system on a 50 cc Mustang and was wondering what you thought about it?
Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
paul

Dear Tony,

I am currently assemblying a Black Horse Chipmunk I plan using for flap training so as to better manage them on warbird and jets. Also a fan of military trainers and particulary of the Chipmunk, I would much tank you add my to the Chipmunk Brotherhood.

Many thanks for your attention and best regards.

I have been thinking about getting the World Models Super Chipmunk 90. My question is whether it has a fiberglass cowl or not. I think it does but I remember a post somewhere that says they now have ABS plastic cowl. Might have been an older version? Has anyone bought one of these recently to know for sure? Oh, also do the graphics come already printed on the fuselage? Thanks.

Thanks Tony.

I am upgrading my signature to proudly show my Bortherhood number and, of course, will show photos when I have the model ready which I hope to be in 10-15 days (wing already assembled and now mounting the engine, an ENYA 90 four stroke).

Best Regards.

Tony, I would like to be added as a brother too.

Rye, RDS is has nothing to do with what radio system you have. I believe it stands for Rotary Drive Servo. Check out this web site for more info: http://www.irfmachineworks.com/g2rds/

Paco, I really like how the RDS is working out right now. I have <10 flights on my chipmunk, but there have been no issues during flight or taxiing. It makes for clean lines not having control horns hanging off every control surface. I even emailed the guy who makes them and he says most of his customers build gliders or jets. My biggest caution if to be sure to have a good silver solder joint. My first regular solder joint broke free during manual manipulation of the rudder.
This is actually a test for the RDS, which it passed, before I use them in my TF DC-3. I am going to have all servos hidden from sight for extra realism. I gleaned this product from fliir and his DC-3 build a while back. His full build is on another forum, which I have studied as much as I have the actual build manual.
Here is a picture of my setup in the chipmunk.

Yeah, it's a really clever system. all you need is room to mount the servo in wings that are thick enough and add necessary reinforcements.

TB,
Thanks for the RDS reply.
I'm not sure if I will use it on the rudder as I can probably conceal a pull/pull set up on the P-51. I do want to use it on the ailerons and flaps though.
Looks like you have a good set up on your chippy. Would have liked to use it on my old Great Planes Chipmunk but will definitely use it on future builds.

Thanks,
paul
