A friend flies his Senior Sport ARF on a Power 46. I haven't seen him push it, but it seems to have plenty of zip.

I'm sure that the 46 will do the job just fine. I don't burn holes in the sky anymore. Been there, done that ! Slow precision scale flight is my bag now. Yes, the motor and hardware are now on order. Tomorrow I call Gary and order decals. Later in the week, I'll see if I can find a Senior kit locally.
Tom, is he the same Gary who use to operate " Get Stencils " ? I think that he was down in Virginia also.

That would be the same "Gary" you speak of.

He has a day job, too. When you call, do it after 5:00 PM Eastern.

I usually email Gary at [email protected] and let him email me back. I know he has limited time and I don't want to interrupt him in the middle of making someone's order. I have purchased from him multiple times first class work and very reasonably priced!

Tom, I spoke with Gary today, and he sounded a little confused about the number of decal pieces in the set. He then said that he was going to call you. If he should, please give him the number of pieces and dimensions that you used on your Kadet Senior. I want the same size, and same look as you have. I did change my NC number to NC 1931.

Thank you for your help with this.

Ed

We'll have to wait until Spring, if you need sizes. My model is in my trailer, and it's not easy to get to.

The Shell logo N numbers are The dimension between the top spars, minus 1/2". The rest would be a guess on my part.

Compare the pics of my graphics to the plans, and estimate. That's all I did, when I provided Gary with the dimensions.

Sorry that I can't be more help.

Tom, I didn't mean for you to go to the trouble of dragging out your plane and measuring. Just describe to Gary what pieces the set included, if he should call. Yes, I can estimate sizes from plans. He may even have recorded them. I also sent him pictures of your plane to jog his memory. We will see what he comes up with. No problem !

Sorry for the confusion.

I usually talk to Gary at least once a week. I shut down the computer early last night, so he had no chance to call.

I'll try to Skype him tonight.

I stopped by the Hobby Barn here in Tucson yesterday, and looked for a Senior, but none on the shelf. They agreed to order one for me at the advertised catalog price, ( 96.99 ), and even cover the shipping. The Hobby Barn here has been completely renovated, and is under new management. It's a Mom & Pop operation, and they are really good people, check 'em out. http://www.hobbybarn.com/

Got a note from Gary, he has shipped my decals. I want to get all my stuff together and laid out. I go in for back surgery on the 21st, and when I come out, I won't be able to lift anything heavier then 5 pounds, for I don't know how many weeks. Building is going to be the best therapy !

I'm glad that Gary took care of you. I hadn't seen that he was online.

In fact, I was going to check, now, after I went through my emails.

Tom, would it be alright if I asked questions here during my build, or would you prefer that I PM you ? I got a few tonight so here goes.

1 - Did you need to do anything else to modify the cowl or fuselage to make it fit, other then glue blocks to the firewall ? And did you purchase it directly from the Sig company ?

2 - What diameter and make are them oldtime looking wheels ? They really make it a 30's looking plane.

3 - How did you outline those doors, tape, or pen, and if pen, what kind did you use ?

Thanks for your help here.

Feel free to ask questions.

The cowl required some cutting to fit the fuselage, but nothing major. I ordered it from Sig. It's the cowl for the Kadet Senior Sport ARF.

The wheels are Williams Brothers 5 1/4" Smooth Contour Wheels. Take a look at their Golden Age Wheels. You may like them better. http://www.williamsbrothersmodelproducts.com/rc.html I used the Smooth Contour because I had them on hand.

The doors are 1/16" trim tape.

Thanks again Tom. OK on the wheels. I did find a brand new set of Golden Age wheels in my shop. At 3 1/8 inches, they are a little on the small side, but since I fly exclusively from paved runways, they will probably do just fine. And I am sold on that Senior ARF cowl. It really finishes up that plane nicely.

The large diameter wheels are for looks only. I fly from grass and 3" wheels are more than adequate.

Changing diameter of the wheels will change one's perception of the model, however. I tried several different sizes before settling on the 5 1/4".

I hope you don't mind my saying, but the concrete wheel stops in the pilot area look like a trip hazard. Otherwise, a lovely runway.

They're steps to help you jump over the fence when a plane is coming from behind you.

Has anyone here built one with an electric motor, and was it difficult to balance ?

There are a few electric ARF Senior Sports in my club. No one has mentioned any difficulty with balance. The nose of the kit built Kadet Senior is a bit more stout than the ARF, so I don't forsee any issues .

I'm planning on making my Sr. electric, I was just going to put an occasional picture of my build, but maybe I should start a thread on it. My problem with that is I'm not a fast builder. Tom builds three planes in the time it take me to do one.

Just get it halfway framed up and take pictures along the way before you start posting it . While your showing the first half of the build then finish it and post the rest . joe

That's good news Rich. I expect to be able to start my kit in about two weeks. I also, am not only a slow builder, but a slow starter. ( I need to recover from a little surgery first. ) Then maybe Tom wouldn't mind if we added a few electric Mods here. I am going to use a Turnigy 46, with a 4S, 4000 mah pack in mine, and kind of make it look like a stand way, way off scale 1939 Stinson 105 Voyager. - Ed
