I'm glad that you made it through the surgry, Ed.

The Kadet is still inaccessible.

From my pics, there are 3 open bays outside of the fuselage sheeting. The ailerons go from there, to the wingtips.

The aileron cord goes to the rear spar.

Exact dimensions ? I don't know.

I suggest that you go back through the construction pics in this thread. You should be able to figure it out from those pics.

I didn't keep any construction pics. Everything that I had is posted here, anyway. If you need any clarification, feel free to ask, but I cannot get to the airframe until mid-April.

A little late but I just found this thread.

I picked this up from a fellow flier in Massachusetts a couple of years ago. If I recall correctly, this was kit built, and customized a little as well. The nose was lengthened and it was built as an electric. It's got a eflite power 46 and a 80 amp CC ESC. Rec' pack as well. Runs on 4 or 5 cell, up to 5000 mah. Plenty of power, more than enough. It is a fantastic flier. I've only flown it a few times as it was really purchased for a since deceased club member. For the right price...someone in New England could be flying this soon.

To paraphrase an old infomercial that used to run......I'm not only flier at Wintonbury, I'm the president. I'd like to think we do some good events, our giant scale is going to be fantastic this year. I fly at Farmington too (was a member last year), as well as Simsbury and Windingbrook. No doubt we've bored some holes through the sky together.

Shoot me a PM if you're interested in the Kadet...it's a sweet plane and I'm always good for a friends and family discount.....

Ed

I went through this thread last night. I think that the pics tell the story, and you should be able to dig your needed info from them.

It's only early February, but I'm getting the itch to get my Kadet into the air. Maybe we'll have an early Spring. LOL

I was trying to find a picture one day on a tread and discovered if you go to thread tools at the top and click on the thread images it opens them all. One off these days I will have to finish building my Senior Kadet. I do like the cowl and will have to implement that into my build.

Congratulations Tom on another beautiful Crump creation! It is always a joy to read your threads...the only thing I dislike about your threads Tom, is that they always cost me money, meaning that I will need now to purchace another kit!

Do you think that since the top and bottom of this plane are both yellow that it may be hard to distinguish the top from bottom?

Looking forward to a flight report.

Thanks Vincent !

The top of my Kadet's wing has an N Number. The bottom just has a Shell Logo. I didn't use the N Numbers that I had ordered.

I usually can't see the underside markings anyway. It may be because my transition lenses get too dark.

I always figure that the landing gear is supposed to be pointed own. LOL

I'm sure that you would build a great Kadet, if you decide to get the kit. I'm already considering buying one, with the idea of turning it into a psedo Spitit of St Louis.

Built my Senior Kadet years ago, many more that I care to remember. I did go online and got a formula to figure size of ailerons for a wing according to wing span and sq. inches. Then built wing and ailerons to specs. Also, built the model so that the wing bolted in place instead of using those pain in the butt rubber bands. Then I did quite a bit of reinforcing and extra sheeting of the fuselage. Why you ask Well, because I powered this model is a Saito 91. Still have the model today and let me say that it is one great flying plane, with terrific short field take off performance.

Here is a little something for those considering going electric, and are concerned about balance. This is for the kit built Senior, not the ARF. The cowl available from Fiberglass Specialties is about 1" longer than normal. He does this to accept the longer 4 stroke engines. In the Pics below, you can probably also see the cuts for the battery hatch. Both the 4S, 4000 mah battery, and ESC are located immediately behind the firewall.

Yes, I'm working outdoors on my back porch. Sorry guys.

Cheers - Ed

Nothing special about the airframe Tom. Here I am in the process of slimming down the claw that holds down the wings leading edge. After trimming and adjusting to fit the claw into the first bulkhead, made of plywood, the claw is now about half the size that you see in photos.

Looks like some nice progress !

I'm getting the bug to build another one. I have a few projects to get out of the way first, however.

The window frames in the kit are 1/64 plywood. They look to be very fragile, and could be subject to shrinkage or warping if painted. How have you been finishing them ?

Ed. Any progress to show us ? Anybody else have a modified Kadet Senior that they'd like to share ?

I was finally able to dig mine out of my trailer. I installed a battery pack and fine tuned my servo trims.

It was too cold to test the engine, but outside of a possible idle adjustment, my Kadet Senior is ready for flight. The weather looks like it may cooperate withing a few weeks.

After again seeing the model assembled in my shop, I'm getting excited to see her in the air.

Nice work, BC.

Is the stab's airfoil designed to pull the tail down ? It looks like it could be used instead of down thrust.

Yes Tom it is for negative lift. The rudder is 1" lower and 1" longer for control at low speed landing. Cut all the wing hinges today on my mill so the wing is next, there will be no ribs in the center section over the body.

Wow! That looks cool, I'm assuming the wing struts are going to be functional?

I forgot I said I would post some pictures of my Sr Kadet here, so here's four:
The first two show the plane overall now, the third shows the wing leading edge cuff, the fourth shows the LG from the front bottom. I have to tighten up the fit of the cuff and the top of the wing some more and feather the extra of the top of the leading edge out onto the wing a little better. The LG I sheathed in wood to make it thicker and wider so it didn't look so leggy.

I checked the balance, so far it's OK, slightly nose-heavy, I was afraid I was adding so much wood to the aft of the plane it was going to be tail heavy. My silk came today, so I may start covering it in a couple days.
