Sig Morrisey Bravo Build

Flyer, that square tubing (aluminum) is 3/4" and is sold at most hardware stores in different lengths. I have found them invaluable when I build!
With all the frame rails done, it's time to make gussets. These are made from 1/32" birch ply that I cut out to fit 1/4" balsa square stock. I first made a paper template, then I transferred it to some ply which I use as my permanent template (colored black) for the rest of the gussets. You can see the final product...

Vincent,

I haven't started mine yet, but seeing yours has gotten me thinking about mine again! It's a very interesting airplane, and story behind it! I do plan to scale mine out to the hilt. I have color chips for the scheme the plane is in now as well as a huge collection of photos another member sent me. Just make sure if you are trying to do a decent scale job of yours that you know the empennage( from behind the wing to the rest of the fuse) is FABRIC covered on this airplane! It took me forever to determine that! It's metal everywhere else, and I'm not sure why Bill Morrisey did it, maybe as a weight savings? It has metal panels everywhere else. Very cool airplane, and these fly great! I have a NIB US 41 going in mine.
Thanks!
Bryan

Leroy took the words out of my mouth.
It looks a whole lot like the Spacewalker at this point. Deja vu
I know that will change soon.
I have a saying " it looks like it grew there" . When everything is tight and clean.
All your joints look like they grew there.

Leroy, the turtle deck is fabric covered, while the area in front of it is planked. At this stage it does build exactly like the Space Walker!
Thanks Kevin, I like that saying...
OK Bryan I hope that you do start your Bravo! I did know about the metal sheeting, and I plan on glassing the areas that were metal covered to better simulate that affect.

Made all of the gussets that I needed this morning, but before I glue them in place I glued 1/8" lite ply to the inside surfaces of the right and left front main frames.
Took a break and decided to do a bit of flying with a couple of daring souls, boy oh boy was it COLD! That's my Laser in the middle...

As you can see the front and rear main frames were joined together. Since two separate sheets of plans had to be joined together, careful attention was given to ensure the fuselage's center line was straight. The joint were the front and rear sections meet was to beveled to ensure a tight fit. Once satisfied, they were glued together using Titebond II. My build table was just barely long enough!

I was beginning to think that I was the only one on this thread ...it's been very quiet!
Thank you Kevin and Tom. Kevin, I feel the same way about a completed frame, I love to look at the beauty of it and almost hate to apply the covering.
Thisstrangeengine, I plan on adding some glass strips for additional strength were the front and rear main frame join.

Sig seems to have the same design in all their Craftsman Series airframes. I don't really care for the front/rear fuselage arrangement.
The next time I build a large Sig model, I plan to alter this design to something that I am more comfortable with.

Work on the fuselage continues...
1/8" lite ply was glued to the top of the fuselage as well as the horizontal stabilizer mounts.
Hope everyone is staying warm!

Sorry guys but I can't help myself. All that snow is a good thing Tom, means my daughter will be renting her snow machines now and the ice fisherman and cross country skiers will be booking rooms from her. I just came in from my shop wearing a Tee Shirt and had the door open. Just putting the finishing touches on my little Up-Roar. Just little items to finish it and my Bipe this week. Next week I will start cutting the wood and a couple of kits for the Bridi Dirty Birdi. If this weather holds I will take the Roar out for a maiden.

Great work Vincent! Speaking or rulers, I have one of those little 6" general rulers and I really like it. After reading about about rulers here I took a closer look at it. It has one section where it is marked in 10th's. I wonder how many times I used it to mark something in 8th's. My eyes aren't so good anymore so I'm sure I've mis-marked parts. I really need to get a ruler that is easy to read and marked to 16th's on both sides.

It's 11 this morning with a wind chill of -4. With the relatively mild temps, I took the opportunity to clear my drive............................................. ...........in preperation for the 6+" of snow predicted for tonight.

Thanks for the compliments guys it is much appriciated... it keeps me going!
Greybeard, I would love to have your 68 degree "cold" weather! LOL It seem as though the media sensationalizes everything these days, wether it be wind, rain, cold, snow. etc., it tends to put folks in a panic. How did we ever deal with these types of things long ago...
