Default Sig 4 * 120 Mods........

I've debated one for a long time now but if I did build it, there would def. have to be changes.

First, IMHO, this plane has to have wheel pants. What size a d where to get? Also, I'd want a cowling of some sort as I hate the "cheeks" on these. Again, what do you suggest that have done this before?
I would want to get rid of at least 2 bays on the wings and round the tips. There are other things I'd do but I wanted to know where and what sizes on the cowl and pants first.
Thanks for any insight you can give!!

Fiberglass Specialties has an assortment of generic wheel pants listed on their site, sorted by shape (profile) and wheel size. I would just pick a set in shape that looks good to you and that is sized to fit whatever wheel size is recommended for your plane.

BTW, Fiberglass Specialties also lists a "Cap-21" style cowl for a Sig 4* 120. Their website is a bit clunky, but if you look under "Cowls for Kits", then under Sig, you will see it listed.

Thanks for the help. Anybody else care to chime in with anything?
If I did one of these, I was thinking of:
-doing a symmetrical airfoil
-sheeting leading edge of wing w/capstrips
-sheeting turtledeck
-changing canopy somehow
-taller gear for better handling
-maybe some slight tail mods

Basically, I want to make it more aerobatic and look like a Dragon Lady somewhat.
Thoughts??????
BTW, I built one of the 40 size back almost 20 years ago....... my first kit build ever. Now, here I am with 150+ kits under my belt I'm wanting to do another for an XYZ 20cc I got from VVRC.

I was looking at Sigs site and I absolutely love the canopy and cowl on the 64" 4Star ARF........why don't they include those in the kits? I hate the canopy in the 4Star kits.......

If I could get a cowl and canopy like those for the 1.20, I'd be all in for it!

What alot of us have done is cut the front part of the canopy off at the windshield line & flip it around and mount it backwards with some creative trimming for a little smoother look. This is a 60 size one but i would think it'd work for the 120 size as well.

You can kit bash the 4 star into lots of planes .. I have built an me 109, and a Spitfire. I always liked to install the landing gear in the wing as well.

Default Mello Yello

My 4 star 1.20…. Clipped two bays out of each wing side, put on a saito 1.80, enlarged the tail and rudder areas, set the wing up for "crow" and flaps. I am in a re-make now going to cut the rudder size back down, removed the crow option, trying to get lighter. The gear is soft and too low, Graph tech makes a carbon fibre one I may use. This is a Sunday Flyer. The 1.80 sucks up the fuel. Fun to fly, but…. just Fun to Fly.

Here is a picture of my 4-Star 60 with a cowl. I wish I could tell you where it came from but it was included with the kit that I bought out-of state. Never thought to ask where it came from. The cheeks had to be cut back to utilize this cowl and it had to be split horizontally for installation and removal. I added tabs with blind nuts to accommodate the mounting screws at the split.

I think I read that you can get a Cap 21 cowl from Fiberglass Specialties for the 1.20 4Star so I may go that route.

You guys think with about a 72" span that this bird could do a Lomcevak? Of course, it would need a bit more elevator/rudder area.
Thanks for the pics guys!

I built mine with the last bay removed and rounded tips. Also moved the elevator servo to the rear, and used pull/pull for the rudder. As a profile mine looks like a Corsair, so a rounded cowl would be perfect for it, maybe round the tail feathers too for a more Corsair like look. I found mine to be too nose heavy and set it up with flaperons, to help slow it down, so my gear is a bit squashed from too many hard landings, so need a different gear now. I got the balance right now, so my landings are much more gentle.

If I do anything different to mine it would be a FG-30 Saito upgrade, and cowl.
