Default Winter, Burrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!

Just being a smartass, I have been talking to a lot of friends and family on the east coast and they have been sending me photos showing me how they are snowed in and having way below zero temps. Today our Bocce season started and this is our 2015 team after the games. It was down to 70 today, Burrrrrrrrrrrrrr

G.B., May the flees of a thousand camels take up residence in your arm pit ! Even here in "tropical" Georgia "IT'S COLD". Snow in the North Georgia mountains, freezing temps overnight here, blaaaa! Hope you enjoy those flees.

It's been a cold rainy day in East Texas. Freezing conditions about 40 miles North. They started pretreating n closing some roadways. Most are not use to driving in those conditions. It will go below freezing here in the early morning hours. I have the wood stove going n it is 75* inside. I have only ventured out between the house n the workshop today.

G.B., I gonna let you off easy - I'm just willing you 990 fleas from those thousand camels - - LOLOL. Seriously, we FINALLY got our first snow of the season last night - 4" and it's quite beautiful (boy, I'm gonna get whacked for that - I just know it). Temps aren't great, 29 right now but it's getting better. Sky is clear, wind is nil, Sr. Falcon, MidStar-40 & Kadet are charged (as are all my planes right now) - I'm heading for the flying field.

You should see what my buddy in NY did to that photo, he did a photo shop number on it and put the team into a winter wonderland, we loved it.
I'm OK with my friends and family keeping warm but it's when they have to go out and drive that bothers me. I come from an area that gets snow and know how to drive in it but with temps as low as I'm seeing all I can think of is ice. I have been watching this storm on the news and it looks nasty in places that don't usually get hit this bad.

I lived in Las Vegas for 19 years. Call me in July and lets talk temp! OK....I do miss being able to do some grilling in December. The high for tomorrow is going to be a windy +3.

Well Jeff, I moved here for the hot and dry and knew what I was in for. Surprise, we had a very cool summer here last year. Only a few days of being hotter then the hinges to the gates of hell. The guys like to get to the lake bed just before sunrise then fly until 10 or 11 then beat feat over to one of the casinos for the cheap breakfast/brunch. I don't like getting up that early so I often wait until late in the day and fly until the sun goes down. Some people wouldn't understand that but when the sun goes down behind the mountain it's like someone turned off the lights.
I also just go down the road and fly at Bill Bennetts old house off of LVB, get in a few flights and drive home. It's less then ten minutes drive.
How many dead do you think you would have in MN if it hit 115 with the humidity?? Scary thought isn't it. I never sweated so much as when it hit 80 in Missouri. My rich uncle thought I should live in the Ozarks for a couple years so they removed my young hinder from the beach in Calif. and deposited my young butt there in July. Rich uncle has a sense of humor!!!

Gray Beard, I wish those fleas upon you as well! Here in Va we have 8 inches of snow (I know, boo hoo from the guys up north) that was deposited Tuesday and today's high is 16 with tonight's low of -4. O'well, it's 65 degrees in my shop, so I can build. Have fun playing bocce.

Guys, I do a post of this sort almost every year just smarting off, I also send out photos to friends when I see what they are going through. My wife just showed me photos of Niagara Falls frozen for the first time in recorded history.
My wife is from NY City but been out west sense 1970 but we still have friends and family all over the east coast. As my wife says, snow, well it is winter but when the temps get that low too many bad things can happen.
Spoke to my daughter in MI and she said they didn't get much snow out of this storm but they do have the wood burner glowing cherry red!!
CK, did your son mention the flip side of Vegas?? We have a huge population of east coasters here in my community and they love it here but some people really can't take the heat. It's a dry heat but so is fire!!! I love it but it isn't for everyone.
I was going to go to the pool yesterday but didn't make it, I use the indoor pool that is kept at 98 degrees then go to the outdoor pool and dry off in the sun. I'm good with that at around 80 but we have had a bit of a cool down that's going to be with us for a few days. Like 68 but I don't do the sun dry thing below 80.
Stay warm!!!

Gray Beard , My son didn't complain about the desert heat during the summer as he had been in the desert in Afghanistan and Iraq during their summer . He did say that compared to North Carolina and Georgia's high humidity the heat wasn't that bad. He has been all over the world but really likes Vegas alot.

I have been all over this country and this area isn't bad. People don't know but it snows here too but only once in a while and 10 inches is a big snow storm, it's usually gone by the next day though. Did he mention the monsoon season?? We get almost no rain in the winter but we get the storms from about July to early September, it just clouds up and dumps on us for a few minutes then blows out. It gets humid for a day or so. The dry lake bed I fly at isn't always dry!! Then we have to go to the more established fields.
Everything is air conditioned and insulated so unless your like me most people aren't ever in the heat. Air in the car, air in the market, air in the home.
You hear it's a dry heat all the time but so is fire!!
I'm good with it but like snow and cold it isn't for everyone. It sure is good for those old aching bodies though, I feel great come summer but I really love this time of the year.
I have friends and family in Arizona and it's hotter there, not a lot but it is hotter. Here you have things to do 24-7 and there are a lot of cheap discounts and free things for the locals. My wife and I aren't gamblers or drinkers but we love live theater and fine dinning so we are in the right spot.
When we were young we almost moved to Colorado, we were ski bums and we both loved fishing and I was a hunter. We ended up moving to the mountains of central Calif. though. That was also a good choice for us at the time. Lots of nice places in this country that isn't too hot or too cold but this is a great area to retire to.

I was in LV in 2012, in August. Night time low was 110! LOL However, until you experience "dry heat" you will never understand it. I will take that 110* heat over a humid 80* any day. I sweat, like a well run race horse, so within minutes of being in the 80* humid heat, I am drenched, but in Vegas, I was comfortable. My son and I walked from Circus Circus to whateverthehelltheplaceis that has the pirate show. Wasn't bad at all. I had stopped at a town in Utah just off the Interstate on the way back and was amazed to see all the greenery, it was nestled in a small valley and I said, Man I could live here!

I'm surprised that the outdoor show at Treasure Island wasn't XXX rated but the performers do wear clothes. I'm pretty sure real pirates never looked like that but I could be wrong??
We only leave the heater going all night so the tourists don't need to warm up there cars in the morning.
It is a bit different in these desert states and when friends and family see how hot it is here they worry thinking how they are almost dead in there 80 degree heat. I like flying here when it's about 90 and I love going to the pool when it's 100+. I use an indoor pool to work out in but enjoy laying in the sun to dry off. My suite is dry in about 10 minutes but I like to lounge and read for about 30 minutes a side. I have only gotten sun burnt here once, funny thing, I was in the water most of the afternoon with the grand kids. That's when I discovered water can magnify the suns rays. I looked like a baked Lobster.
One of my biggest questions is, Why is Summer our Main Tourist Season?? What are people thinking??Lets go to the desert when it is as hot as fire???
I used to go fishing in Mexico but during December and January. Got out of the Calif. winter and found the perfect weather and time to fish in Baja!!
Vegas in August?????

I wasn't there as a Tourist, I had to stop at a customer site to install a firewall, and it was on my way to Chino to get pictures of the Swamp Ghost while it was still in the states. I myself get moonburns, me and the sun do not get along well, which makes me a real shady character. I drove from Rockford IL all the way to Chino in 2 days. Drove from Vegas to somewhere in CO, then from CO to home in a day. The traffic in that area of vegas SUCKED! I would not want to go through that ever again.

Planes of Fame??
If you didn't like the traffic around Vegas then you would hate most of So. Calif. At least the traffic in this area moves at rush hour.

A bit of an update to our 80 degree weather. We had a slight cold front move in and last night it started raining a little. I went out for a short trip and had to turn on the wipers on the way home. It kept raining all night, just a light sprinkle really. Today is our Bocce day and I got an early call informing me it was canceled due to snow?? It was just a bit wet here at my place, then I looked at the hills around the house and they were dusted with that white stuff and a few of the shrubs in my yard had little patches of snow under them? Seems the Bocce courts still had about an inch on them so they called the game.
So much for bragging rights. We slept right through the big snow storm and when we got up only the top of my trash cans had any left on them. My wife and I are still laughing about it though. Almost 80 a week ago and snow today?? Not exactly tee shirt and shorts weather either but it will warm back up in a couple days.

Not a lick of snow at the house is left but this is just up at the end of our street on one of the small hills. We got up at 8 and the photo was taken at 11. At the height of the snow fall we may have gotten an inch but it's too warm to stick around long. I hope we get a bit more just for the fun of it but I was out there in my tee shirt and slippers.

Niagara Falls, while cold, is not frozen. There is a lot of snow and ice buildup around the American Falls, but water is still flowing over the brink. (I live about 6 miles from the falls)
