Its the first fully designed kit SIG has done in 30 years. It's all SIG baby! It is jaw droppingly big. I took a picture standing under it and it wouldn't fit on the screen. Just imagine an inverted low pass over the runway with one of these. It is just calling for a smoke system on a 4 stroke twin.

How about a Saito FG-60R three cylinder gas engine?

Its about $300 more in cost. If I were to buy that engine, it would be for my P-61.

Also, assuming this has a tall but narrow cowl like the 110 does, a rear exhaust single, or a horizontally opposed twin might be easier to fit.

It does. I dont know what kind of cowl it will have, probably glass like their Cub, the one on it appeared to be wood. I think the 4 stroke twin sticking out would look great.

The cowl is not made of fiberglass. The cowl is made of wood former's and plywood sides.

Personally I would rather see a Pitts S1.

I wonder if this would be a good plane to train on. It does have the advantage of being seen! If I setup low rates and lots of expo, on a buddy box. Any thoughts?

Thats for sure. Just wondering how its slow speed performance is with low rates. I know it's not a beginners plane, nor will it have the auto correctness of a trainer, but if its not super happy on the controls it might work to help get my kids and wife flying. Of course by the time it arrives and I get it built, they should already have some flying skills.

I taught my young son to fly on a Rascal 110 some years ago.
It made for a great trainer, easy to see, great slow flying characteristics with no surprises.
This one is a bit big but I'll bet it will fly just as well….

Seems a shame that the Rascal 110" is not available as a similar kit to the 168" kit. The 49" kit is a little on the small side but the Racal 110" would be more accessible to builders in terms of cost and fitting out with electronics and flight packs.
How about it SIG, or do I get my hands on the 49" plan and have it enlarged? Apologies for hijacking the thread!

Sig should make an updated laser cut 1/4 Scale J-3 Cub kit. Their 1/5th scale laser cut kit is still my benchmark for an absolutely great building kit.

Agreed, though I did find a weakness in the cabin that I resolved, but overall a really good building kit. The new Rascal should be even better since it is CNC milled, so glue will soak in nicely. I have 2 of the 1/5th kits, one built as the kit, the second with a second clipped wing on the bottom staggerwing style. Really good kit.

Sigplanes is tight with SIG though. Wonder why it was pulled off though. Maybe they got enough pre-orders that will take them a while to fill.

Well, better too many orders ...than not enough !

I know sales figures are probably impossible to get. But I always wonder exactly how much some kits are selling.. I suppose its bad for manufacturers when people start selling the kits they have on the shelf as well. It seems like I am seeing more kits on ebay lately...at least the type I search for.

Those of us that preordered at Toledo were told of they got a lite response that they would only be making those sold at Toledo but we were locked in for getting the ones we ordered no mater what, and if demand was large enough they would put it into production as a listed kit. I'm assuming (and that's bad to do) that they did not get the response they thought they would get and that is why they sold some after the show online as there is always a minimum number that you need to make production runs profitable.

If thats the case, those of us who pre-ordered will have a unique airplane. Sometimes that can be a good thing.

If they would make a Pitts s1 they would probably get pre orders
through the roof.

I believe the SSE is an 80's model that was updated to laser cutting. I got the first new in 30 years direct from the guy who designed it at SIG.
