Since this plane is so small (relatively speaking that is )... I don't know. It could be part of the hatch. I'd like this project to look good since it is in memory of a friend. The main thing here is just to keep the weight as far forward as possible so I don't have to add weight to balance. If I do hatch the front end with the wind shield, anybody have ideas on how to make the wind shield sturdy or ridged enough to withstand the "abuse"?
One other thing, adding the window in the wing. I'm wondering if I will sacrifice any strength by cutting that out. I will have the struts and I will probably glass the center section. Any thoughts there?

My suggestion would be to omit the hatch modification. It adds complerxity where it is not desired.
My thought would be to put a hatch in the bottom, where there is less to deal with.

observation window in center section
should not be issue if there is/or you can add plywood brace tying top and bottom spars together for the front opening of the window and back opening of the window (rear spar). Basically like wing joiners as they are referred to any other kits and may already have built in. I have done it in the past on Great Planes Cub kits, Little stronger wing construction though compared to Nosen light wing. Spruce struts will add plenty of strength. if really concerned, you could glass top and bottom of center section of wing.

That would eliminate the complexity, and it would be a little more... no, a lot more hidden! As long as the battery will fit from the bottom, I'll check into that when I get home tonight. Good idea Tom! Thanks. (But still, the top hatch would have been a challenge... NAH!)

I'm thinking magnets would do the trick. My Hanger 9 Sopwith had a spring loaded latch that was built into the fuse, but it broke and would have been a pain to replace/repair. Sopwith that eh?! (A little plane/slang humor there. ) So I replaced that with magnets and it works swimmingly. The only question in my mind; will I be able to get it off without breaking it? I think it's plenty stout!

It's been kind of busy lately, not much chance to work on the Citabria. But I almost have the hatch finished. There will not be any problem with the magnets I used holding it in place. In fact it may be a bit too much holding power! Also, I made a little mistake with the sheeting, I wanted it to extend past the end to match up with the angled sheeting under the cabin area. I'll have to figure out some way to remedy that.

Here are some things I finished up last night.
All I really need now is hook & loop material (aka Velcro) so secure the battery. Of course I don't know how it will balance out yet, that remains to be seen.
Oh, and watch out when putting the hatch into position! I pinched a finger pretty good last night!
(Man, I wished I had started this thread on RCG, it's so much better!)

This weekends progress. It was kind of a messed up weekend as far as my schedule, so I didn't get as much done as I could have.
Landing gear block: I added some 1/4" square to the sides so I would have something to glue against. I guess otherwise it was supposed to sit there by itself? Not sure, but this just seemed to make sense to me and was easier.
Got the wing mount blocks epoxied in and added pins to it as well. I'd rather not have those break off if ya know what I mean.
And lastly, I got the top of the nose sheeting installed. Next will be the bottom under the cabin.

Yeah VJ, for this one. I want it to go a little quicker. The fumes do occasionally get to me, but I try to stay out of their way. The way I look at it; if you don't bother them, they won't bother you. (Huh???)

Oh, so you can use that on balsa as well? I never thought of that. Is it still fast curing? And what about cost as compared to regular CA?
