Drawing out the side banner (DONNER WETTER) and the strange W? on the turtle deck. Does anyone have a clue as what these are? I haven't looked it up yet but I am guessing the W is related to the Wetter on the side.. probably just an odd name.. EDIT, just looked up the words, German for "Thunder Weather" interesting



I also got my small vacuum formed gun backs and pads painted and installed..added a quick clearing arm mechanism.. nothing to extravagant. I will do a little more paint work later...

Shot a base coat on the gun coolers, and made a quick and dirty gun site peep tube.

I get to feeling guilty on RCScalebuilders.. when I look around.. this detailing helps me payback for some of my fun scale sins ! hahahhaha Besides I picked up that small vacuum former table, it only has about a 4 inch square table. I needed to make something with it I am also going a new route on this plane.. I bought a big roll of Doculam... think thats the correct term. Going to be covering with that, and painting.. BIG savings on covering.. seems tough and fairly light.. you might like it. One thing I do like about this covering is how it goes from being foggy to clear when it gets hot enough.. pull the edge over ....iron it.. if its clear its been hot enough. I still use a little brush on adhesive first.. its habit.

I've seen doculam used on smaller electric models, but nothing as large as yours.

The rudder is covered with Doculam and primed, the fin still had a fabric on it...from before so I just brushed some gray over it.

Doculam on wings... I am not the best film covering person, but this still went on good for me.. Takes more heat than model coverings...





And with dusted on Rustoleum primer..

To me its just like film covering, I make the same mistakes..Occasionally iron in a wrinkle on sheeting !!! arg, and I always end up with a bit more slack in the covering then a better cover person would.. But it seems to shrink out nice..Didn't have any warping problems other than the rudder, and that thing is THIN, my friend sanded it down like a toothpick on the back..I would have left more wood on there. However it was built so I tried covering it, and it is very usable.

I never developed the skills to do a proper film covering job. I've been seduced by the easy application of the "tex" type coverings.

Well I slapped some base coat colors on the bottom wing. The roundels will need a second coat but the sand color on the bottom, and the green /brown/black mix on the top will be good enough for me. I will do some faked rib painting , and weathering before its all done of course.

Is Ducolam the same product that Oz-cover used to be?

I didn't know about Doculam, 2 weeks ago, I am not sure what Oz-Cover is.. This stuff is just a roll of plastic coating for paper covering protection basically. But I have the 3 mil, not the thin version.

Sort of distracted on other projects, so I decided to get the basecoat on the tail section while I had an interest in painting something.

Well, back of fuse covered with Doculam, and a dry coat of primer applied. I did find some wrinkles I had missed, but I am pretty sure they will all come out with the heat gun later. ONWARD ! All the tin and plastic from the front is primed. I will have LOTS of stuff to paint on the fuse now at my leisure

I prefer lightweight dacron. Goes on like fabric cause it is! Best, cheapest covering I have found. Perfect for WW1 models.

Like vertical, I haven't been convinced, though. My Solartex, Natural, order arrived to day.

A little more fuse art drawn out, and stencils made. Stencils are tracing paper stuck to poster board and than cutout..



And guide lines traced out on the fuse.. might be hard to see in this pic, but they are there.
