Well it's been snowing here to beat the band! We are having a good old fashioned blizzard with plenty of wind and drifting snow. With school cancelled, I was able to spend some time in my workshop sheeting the right wing panel. I decided to use 1/16" sheeting to keep weight to a minimum, but that doesn't leave much room for error if you have to remove any material. I'm confident that after spending time getting all of the ribs uniform that I won't have to sand much.

After sheeting the entire wing, it has stiffened up the framework considerably. All that is left to complete on this panel is the wing tip, but I'll wait and do both tips at the same time to ensure that they are as uniform as possible. With a little sanding, I think they will look OK.

Nice progress in on this snowy day! How do you plan on covering? Paint? Monocote?

In reference to post #124.

I understand what you are doing, and yes it will fit better. I've done it myself in the past sometimes. But ultimately what would be even better would be to cut out that radius of glue and solidly glue the block in.

Sheeted wings always look nice, but your craftsmanship is exceptional.

Nice work !!!

That wing looks great Vincent,
I put wing on hold, When i started framing it, I noticed the supplied Trailing edge is already to short and the rib notches that were precut do not match the plans.
outter 3 ribs match and the rest are all miscut.

Sent 2 requests on GP website but havent heard back if they will supply me with new TE's

Trax, If they don't respond back, an option that you may consider would be to shorten the wing just a bit and cut your own notches to fit. Boy, you have been plagued with one problem after another with your kit, sorry to hear. With all the problems that you've had, they should give you a whole new kit! My ailerons are a bit short in my kit and they aren't in the greatest shape either, besides being warped, they were secured together using a rubber band which left some nice grooves in the Balsa...

Yep, I'll say it hasn't gone smoothly for sure.
Oddly enough just before this I built another Eagle2 trainer and I was missing some of the hardware in the small kit bag. They were kind enough to send that to me though.

Snow blower ? Mine died during last weekend's 12" storm, pictured below. Although extremely busy, the Ariens dealer provided a 24 hour turn around. I finally got to blow out my drive yesterday. LOL

I looked at the receipt, to see if it was still covered under warranty, which it was. The receipt was dated Jan 6, 2016, so it's a couple years old.

The "new" blower has a 24" cut. The old, had a 30". The new blower has a smaller engine, too, but the overall effect is a lighter, more nimble, machine. It reduces my blowing time by 20% ! And yes. It's getting a workout this year. LOL

I bought the 28" Airens Tom, I used to have the 30" model as well. It came in very handy with this last storm that dumped 16+" of snow on us. It was predicted that we were only to get 4-8", so much for those weathermen!

I'm on my 3rd Ariens. The first was a 3 1/2 horse unit. It was huge when I lived in Iowa, but too small, after my move to Northern Michigan. That was back in 78. I've been hooked on the brand, since.

They've been predicting more snow than has fallen, around here. Lake Effect snow is hard to predict. It depends on temp and wind conditions.

The other day, there were white out conditions of the other side of town (10 miles). They were getting dumped on. On the east side, where I live, we had an inch. LOL

Temps will be in the 30s and 40s, until Friday. I plan to take advantage and get the drive and walkways cleaned up. At this time of year, nore snow is always on the way. LOL

I am so thankful that I have never had to shovel or blow snow!
You guys all have a special "gene" to be able to deal with that.

Snow can be beautiful. But I also know it gets nasty after a few days (in the city/suburbs).
As beautiful as it is, just not that much you can do with it other than look at it. Well, you can ski if you have a big enough hill (mountain). Snowmobiles would surely be cool. But so are Jet Skies and four wheelers. Just can't ride them in the snow.

I would still like the chance to fly an RC plane off of snow with some skis.
We are to hit 72° today...

I never heard of a Snapper Tom, was it any good?

With my Bravo finally completed and off of my build table, my Tiger finally has "center stage"! Work on the left wing has started, I was short two ribs so I had to make them first.

My son, who lives in Phoenix, called today. He spent most of the conversation in trying to get us to move to that area.

It's tempting, but I have so much stuff, I can't imagine moving it all.

Listen Tom, I think I can help you out. I can come over and load those pretty planes that you made right into my pick-up! I'll be only too glad to help out. lol

There's a problem, here. I don't know if two pickup loads, would do it, and that includes pulling my trailer behind.

If I were to move to warmer climbs, I would not trust a mover to transport my models. We did some extra driving, but the last trip to Phoenix was 4000 miles +, round trip. That 8000 miles of driving, just to transport my models.

There are a couple non-modeling items that I could leave behind..............my lawn mower and my snow blower. LOL

Vincent,
Was the kit missing ribs or is that because you changed rib spacing and needed extra. Sure is sad to read so many things messed up in these kits. I realize they are not "high dollar" kits. But man, missing parts, parts cut wrong, and maybe even design issues. They have had what 25 years or more to perfect this kit?

None the less, your GB Tiger is looking good, and your build thread should help a less experienced builder find their way through the build.
I also am looking forward to seeing that Bravo assembled. I did not pick up on and follow that thread from the beginning. But seeing the parts and pieces in the last page or two, I can see that thing is a masterpiece.

Thanks for those kind words Rick, much appreciated. The reason I had to make the extra ribs was not the fault of the kit maker. Because I changed the spacing of the ribs I needed more than what was supplied, so I had to make them. Even though this is a low dollar kit ($159.99 Tower Hobbies), I think that you can still come out with a nice looking, great flying plane for short money. It's sort of like buying a house that's a "fixer-upper", you know your going to dump a bunch of money in it but in the end you have something that you can be proud of. Having said that, consistent quality control has definitely been an issue that should be addressed by the manufacturer.

My Bravo has been on my build table for quite a while and I am happy that it's finally done.. It was a real joy building her though. I find myself enjoy building older vintage kits vs. more modern kits, but they are not easy to come by. I pick them up on e-bay when available usually for quite a bit of money, but the pleasure that I get building them is worth every penny spent! I have a couple of vintage kits stashed away waiting for the right time to get built. The one that I acquired which is my most prized, is my unopened Sig Yak-18P kit, which is near impossible to find! Who knows, maybe I have the last one!
