The downloads page at the Outerzone includes a magazine article with a brief description of how that particular model was finished.

Default help on building the curare kit

Hi everyone. Im progressing on building the curare kit, but I have a question : the plans state that the engine should have 0 to 3 degrees of down thrust. I will be using a rossi .60 motor so im thinking 2 to 3 degrees of thrust should ne enough? Also, from where do I measure the degree? (Please see attached on the plan) from the back of the engine or the middle of the engine?
Regards

Technically you set the 3° from the spinner back plate.
However, best I can tell, you can shape the cowl area after the engine is mounted.
So, set the 3° in such a way that everything fits. Make sure all four mounting screws have enough wood under them to mount properly.

thanks for the reply Rick, does that mean I should measure the 3 degrees from the spinner backplate as in the attached picture?
regards

The attached picture should help. You want the engine angled down 2-3* in your case. The bottom side view shows bulkhead #1 mounted vertically and the engine angled down from that point. The upper top view shows the engine mounts angled to the right. Picture that as a side view and the engine would be angled up. You would want the opposite with engine angled down. Hope this is clear. I measure the angle at the firewall. Measuring from the spinner as you have it, the engine would sit higher in the cowl area and may not fit properly. If the plan shows a thrust line thru the firewall, I would measure there. Just the way I would do it.

thanks very much for your help! I will measure the angle feom just behind the engine then, that should give enough space and provide ample clearance
