I just finished building this Balsa USA Taube 40. I covered in with Worldtex and Sig Koverall. Than spray painted it with Krylon Sand and silver spray paints. I then sealed it with a spray polyurethane. I had to put 4 oz of weight in the noise to get the CG correct and she weighs in a 5 lbs 11 oz. That is 11 oz heavier that what Balsa USA says she should weigh. But with a wing span that has 680 sq in that still comes out to only 19 oz wing loading. This Taube by Balsa USA way a very nice kit to build, but it is not for the new builder. You have to study the plans very well and make sure you have the right part in your hand for the next step.

This is only a 3 channel plane and I have never flown a three channel before. Does this plane handle different being only 3 channels?

Neat! Love all Taubes. Expect a little skidding and slipping with the three channel setup. It'll be like flying a Sig Seniorita or something similar on three channels. You may find yourself having to wait for the nose to come around after applying rudder. But then. the full size Taube wasn't exactly an Extra 300, either...

I put a small wheel where you have the wire on the fin.

Thanks for the nice feed back guys. I have a old Enya 46 4 stroke on this plane with a APC 12.24x3.75 prop. I was hoping this prop would put a lot of wind under the wings when flying at real slow speeds. I am thinking about using a 12x6 or 11x7 prop if I don't like this prop.

Jim, a word of caution - the Taube doesn't like to fly well with the ailerons disconnected. We had a sad incident at our field this past weekend. One of our members neglected to do a control check before takeoff and seriously damaged his Taube when it didn't respond to aileron commands. Made a real mess of the plane. No one knows why he didn't use the rudder. It was a beauty bird in the air. Hope yours is similar. Please don't forget the control check before you advance the throttle.

I do not have ailerons on this Taube. This is the 3 channel unit. I have already given the plane a good radio check and everything seems to be OK. Not every having flown a 3 channel before I was hoping someone could tell me if this plane has any bad habits I am not aware off.

Very nice job on your plane. I really like your WW! German pilot. Did you have to add any noise weight to the plane to get the CG right? I know the plans say a 40 2 stroke will fly this plane, but do you think a OS 40 LA will have enough power to do the job. I here this plane is a real floater. I hope so, because my Enya 46 4 stroke has about the same power as your OS 40 LA. I hope both of our engines will do the job we require of them.

To balance my Taube required 12oz in the nose.
I don't know if the OS 40LA will be enough, but its all I got at the moment.

I also love the BUSA Taube, got mine used and been flying it every weekend this season.
Lost it last Sunday to some tall pines. Devil of a job finding it but it was recovered a couple days later. Fair amt of damage to one wing and some to the fuselage.
Guess I gotta go back to the GP Tiger Moth but not looking forward to that.
Really dislike the assembly time at the field……….talk abt lazy.
Think my Taube is/was covered with SolarTex cream or antique any ideas where to
Purchase SolarTex??

I tend to overcontrol 3 channel planes due to their slow reaction, it's just a matter of getting used to it.

The Tube took off and flew very nicely for about 5 minutes the I lost the elevator for some reason and she did not survive.

OK - the brown truck left my Balsa USA Taube 40 kit on the porch yesterday. Going to use a Saito 50 for power, and thinking strongly about using a pull-pull setup for the control surfaces. Also a tail wheel on the bottom of the rudder, as our runways are paved.

Haven't opened up the box yet. one question - how much covering material is needed? I managed to get the last roll of Coverite cream fabric from the LHS. Will that be enough?
