Default attaching fiberglass cowls

How do you guys attach your cowls?? Ive always used screws backing them with pieces of light ply but after a while the vibration losens the screws and they work themselves out. Any other ways to do it?? I was thinking of using blind nuts this time around..

I've used blind nuts and rubber bushings through the cowl. Works fine and not all that hard to do IF you can get your hands around inside the fuse.

I was thinking that mounting the cowl with a velcro band around the end attached to a matching one on the fuse would work too. Adhesive would have to be fuel compatable, but all in all I think it would be easy and allow for some adjustment too.

Getting it off would be something like separate an area, slide paper between the strips and work it along till the whole thing popped off.

I just completed my first cowl, and used a nifty little set of hardware from a company called PSP MFG. to attach it ... Very simple, 6 plastic "grommets" w/ rubber inserts. Still use screws, but not directly to the cowl. Looks good, gives a little more support, & may add a wee bit of vibration dampning.

I also mess around w/ old cars, and have some 3M ribbon caulking. ( used as seam sealer, adhesive, etc in auto body repair.) I used this to attach my canopy. Very pliable, easy to work with, strong bond, can be removed, cleans up well w/ most solvents, & so far glow fuel doesn't seem to bother it... I think this could be used for cowls as well.. A word of caution though... This stuff sticks like crazy, so pay attention!!

I used these on a World Models P-51 cowl. They work great!
