What filler for cowl seam?
I need to fill and smooth out the seam from a two piece ABS cowl. What do people use for this? It will need to be paintable as well.

RE: What filler for cowl seam?
Most hobby shops have a plastic specific putty for the platic models they sell. It also comes in a light grey!
I would rather this that the auto filler rust-red 'Bondo', because teh bondo does contain acetone which eats most plastics!
save teh bondo for the fiberglass stuff..

Thanks all. I thought someone mentioned bondo, but I wanted to be sure. I'll check out the bondo at the local auto supply store - see what color it is. But that's what I'll use.
The "make your own" sounds cool - very good idea - but I better be safe and stick with the ready-made bondo for this. Thanks again.

I do it the way mitchpittsman says.
Melt some scraps from the trimmings of the part in acetone - or dope thinner or MEK - makes a paste that you can use as a filler that is exactly the same material the part is made of. Same color, too. When it's dry, sand it smooth and finish it.

Actually, if you haven't tried it you may want to try automotive lacquer glazing putty. It comes in a big toothpaste-type tube. It dries quickly and is very easy to sand. In fact, I dip my finger in lacquer thinner, mek,or acetone and pass it over the seam a few times and I usually keep sanding to a minimum. Any autobody supply shop should have it--I've even bought it at NAPA.
