What Paint to use for Canopy Base?
Hi, I'm building a SIG Mid-star 40 and I'm about to paint the Canopy base.
The instruction suggests SIG Supercoat Dope or Skybrite spray.
I wonder if I could try the following since I have them at home.
-Lightly sand the surface. Use Painter's Touch (by Rust-Oleum) sandable primer to prime the surface. Let it dry and then lightly sand it.
-Use Painter's Touch Multi-Purpose paint spray.
I think Painter's Touch is latex type paint. Will it stay well on the plastic base? Shall paint the inside or the outside surface?
Thanks for your input.

ME109,
If you are patinting the clear canopy (clear lexan material) then you could (should?) paint it on the inside (similar to how we paint the RC Car bodies) except you wouldn't want to do primer first because the first coat is what you see when you paint from the inside!
I am not readily familiar with the Sig 4Star... so my suggestion could be WAYYYY off base.
Thanks,
Ted

Actually the Mid-star has a two-part canapy. It has a base that you have the "dashboard" and pilot attached to and the canopy which is glued to the base. The whole thing attaches to the wing with a dowel in the back and a screw at the front.
I painted my base with Top Flite black paint. But, if you get the canopy glued on well, you shouldn't have to worry about it being fuel proof. You can paint it with whatever is safe for plastics..
If you're talking about the OUTSIDE of the canopy then...
BTW, I tinted my canopy with RIT dye. Talk about a pain..
And I wouldn't worry about painting the bottom of the base as you can't see it when it's attached to the wing.
