I am building a Stingray 120 with a ryobi 31cc conversion engine. Pros on the stingray is that its wing loading is lighter than the 4 * and so is its over all weight. The 4 * is laser cut and the stingray is die cut. They both build quickly and have similar fight characteristics. The Stingray has a 83" wing and the 4 * is 81" wing. The 4* has a better landing gear and is less forgiving on hard landing becasue of that. I have upgraded my stingray to a better landing gear and made some modes. Here are a few pics of it. I hope to be flying her buy the end on the month. Good Luck

Harold

I had to remove 1 inch from the length of the nose and move the firewall back 3" after that. She was still a little nose heavy so I added 3 oz of weight to the tail section. She balances right on the money now. I hope to be flying her by the end of the month.

Thanks

Mine weights in at 48 OZ with all of the conversion stuff added to it. You have to remove everything that is not needed from the engine to make it weight as lees as possible. The flywheel also needs to be cut down and balanced. It spins a 16x8 prop at 7400 rpm with the modes I made to it.(Larger carb and adjusted the stop on the reed value) The total weight of my Stingray with the Ryobi is 14 lbs. I beefed up the stingrays landing gear and with the added weight to help the CG she came out a little on the heavy side for a stingray. But I fell the ryobi will fly her just fine.

I built the 4*120 because you can do so many little mods like cut the wings down 1 bay and add rounded wing tips, I added 1" to the rudder and rounded all tail serfaces. I turned the canopy around and cut it down so as to look more modern. She will get a cowel later this year after the RCS140 has more running time. She is a very nice plane that is a great flyer.

Jim,

Your Stingray is looking great! I have unfortunately put my plans hold for now, but am very interested in hearing how yours flys. Please keep us informed OK?

Thanks,
Rick

Well do. I plan on testing her this weekend by just starting the ryobi and see how see taxi's around my back 40. I only have to install the ryobi and gas tank and she is finished. I hope you are still planning on building one of these. The kit has been fun to build and modify.

Thanks

Jim,

I do plan on building one, but it's on the back burner for now.
