Balsa vs. Plastic wingtips
Greetings once again,
I am building a RV-4 and am considering making balsa wing tips to replace the pastic ones that came with the kit. Does anyone have any good tips on how to recreate the shape of the plastic ones? I guess the main reason that I want to do this is so that I can install navigation lights in a solid piece rather than an hollow piece. Thanks in advance for your help.

The easiest way to do it, is to glue a large triangular block of balsa to the tip. Normally, you would then just sand it to the shape of the wing, (This is really much easier that you might think) but with the RV-4, you would also have to sand the undercamber as well. That would only be slightly trickier.

RE: Balsa vs. Plastic wingtips
Altough not same thing, I made balsa wing tips for a 4*40 instead of stock ply tips and at the end it was only 1gram heavier than stock ply which wasw close enough for me, there was still more wood to be removed.
Here are the pictures.
A heavy duty handle with the blade that is shown is excellent for carving shaping. I don't remmebr the balde number but I think it was
