Default Skyshark 190's

Ok im just finishing up my SE and this was a breeze to throw together. Couldve had it done earlyier but had finals and couldnt work on it for around 5 days, but i still got it almost complete . Well was just wondering if a Sky shark fw-190 would be alright for a second kit. I was looking at a GP or something like there p-51 but sky shakr is lazer cut parts. Was wondering if anyone has had any expereince with this kit or the stuka is alrigh to and if it was a easy or hard build etc...
thanks

Everything I've seen on the Skyshark kits leads me to believe they are very well engineered and fairly easy to build. But, just because a kit is laser cut does not make it great, or even good. Just like any other kit, the parts fit is only as good as the person who setup the tooling. Because of that, I do not give laser cut kits any preference over hand cut or even die cut kits.

I usually don't recommend our kits for a 2nd kit. They are easy to frame but they are fully sheeted with 1/16" Balsa. If you don't have any sheeting experience, they can get a little tough - especially the FW190s. If you can find someone to help you sheet - then you should have no problem with our 190s.

JWN - you are correct about laser cutting - many of the laser cut kits available today are simply kits that were designed to be die cut now being cut with a laser. In some cases, tolerances are not adjusted properly and you end up with a laser-cut kit that doesn't fit any better than a die-cut one. Our kits were originally designed to be cut by laser. In fact, many of the pieces are so intricate that they can't even be cut by hand. One of the things that you will notice about our kits is that once they are framed up, there is very little sanding needed before sheeting.

Mike,
I hope you didn't read my comments as directed at your kits. I've seen pics of the parts sheets and close ups of the fit. They are obviously first rate though I have not held one in my hands.

I recently saw a web site where a guy was building a large warbird which was cut by one of the laser cutters on the web. He laid the dihedral braces over the plans to show that not only was the angle wrong, but the slots for the ribs were mislocated. It's unfortunate that this type of work exists, but it's a prime example of what happens when someone see's "laser cut" and think it's the best quality there is. Buyer beware!

If I had the cash in hand (too many bills right now), I'd have one of your 109 D9's in hand right now.

BTW, I know you guys are always working on new projects, but have you considered a 60 size Mig 3 or Seafury? The Seafury seems to be the hot thing right now but I've wanted one for many years. The Mig 3 is something you just don't see anywhere save the Roamin Research plans.

JWN - I totally agree with you!! I have seen some bad laser-cutting also.

The Mig 3 and Sea Fury top my list of favorites - so you never know what might be around the corner!

Java, Mike at Skyshark is about as nice and honest a person I have seen here or anywhere else in this hobby. I have kept an eye on anything I see on him or his products. I want sevseral of his kits and I do my research befor buying. I have never seen a single complaint about him or his products. His customer support seems to be unrivaled. Having said that if Mike says that it is not hard to frame up, believe him. He has everyting to lose by being decietful. He in all my wanderings has never steered abnyone wrong. I have seen him steer customers away from his product when appropriate. I know I sound like a commercial. i do not have any affiliation with Mike or his company. Just a fan of his. I say do it and enjoy the Skyshark FW. I feel you will love it. This is my opinion.

Thanks for the kind words Mark!

Besides the sheeting, it will frame up pretty easily. There is only one block to sand on the rear of the fuselage - otherwise you just start with a flat building surface and follow the plans. You can download the instruction manual from our website - or if you want, I can send you a manual to look over.

Minn... Noo, too many P-51s out there!!!
(along with Spits, P-40s, F4Us, P-38s, Hellcats, Wildcats, and Bearcats!)
[but maybe an A-36 instead?!?!?!]

We need some varietty, and some 'other' models that, while not 'winners', did give teh 'winners' a fight..

Them Ruskies did have a few neat and successful designs, such as teh mig 3, or a big fat Polikarpov!!

just pokin' a bit-o-fun

Sorry but no P-51's in the works yet. They are a little too mainstream for us right now.

This one is very good as it details the pilots that flew the plane and is also a nice reference for other Luftwaffe aircraft.
