Puppeteer Builders lend me your ears....
First the background .....
I am currently building a Flair Puppeteer.
The bottom wings have been constructed, and are ready for installation of Controls etc.
As you people who have constructed the puppeteer know, the Ailerons are all driven via a single servo mounted in a servo box in the center of the lower wings. This servo drives 2 control rods to bell cranks that move the bottom ailerons, these then move push rods to drive the upper surfaces.
I feel this is an awful lot of wire, wood, and wind for one servo to be moving.
Given my humble opinion I want to use 2 servos, one for each side of the aircraft.
Now my question .....
The central servo box is too small for 2 standard servos, and I'm not going to enlarge it, given this, would I be better off putting micro size servos in the servo box, or move the servos out into the wing where the bell cranks would normally sit.
Question 2 ......
If I do the latter, would additional bracing be required? (Aluminium Tubing down the cutouts for the push rods etc) Your opinions please.

I'm building the Flair Bristol F2b. And it has individual servo's for the ailerons in the wing in front of the ailerons bottom wing.
Don't think micro servo's would be strong enough for you. Hitec Mighty mini's might be.
But in your case I'd use a higher torque servo in place of a standard one if your worried there's to much area to be moved around. Say 60oz's or more. There's several that should fit int the servo bay you have descibed.
Or you could build servo bays into the wings in front of the ailerons bottom wing. Easy to do. And use standard servos there.

My vote would be to put them where the bell cranks would go. 2 decent mini's might do it. if they have at lest 45 oz of torque. I would just use 1/8" ply for the actual mount. And 1/8" lite ply doublers on the ribs that you mount the plate to. Run the doublers from the trailing edge to the front of the spars and al should be well.

If you're up to it I'd look at making the centre sections part of the fus and making both top & bottom wings plug in as one unit on each side... saves a half hour build when you get to the flying site [&o]

I built a pup some 14 years ago and have just brought it out of retirement. It does seem to be tail heavy even with a Enya 60 4 stroke installed. Can anyone please advise where the balance for C of G should be measured? Thanks in advance
