motor pica 1/5 waco
I know I saw this somewhere but I can't find how much I should pitch the engine right. I think I remember 2 degrees. Anyone know?? If anyone out there has built this model I am about to cut out the entire center of the cowl. Any one else? I am putting a OS91fx and need to find a way to run the exhaust. I think the 35mm extension will work. This kit is awsome and leaves a lot to the imagination. I started this kit 10 years ago and am now trying to finish it. Been out of the hobby for a while. Any sugestions would be a reel help. Thanks

RE: motor pica 1/5 waco
The engine mount pretty well prevents you from adding very much thrust. You might try to put in a little right, but I've built 2 of the smaller ones and they flew pretty well with the engine mounted in line with the mounting rails.
I used 4 stroke engines on the smaller Pica WACOs I built, and used the flexible exhaust tubing to route the residue. If a header pipe is available for this engine you might be able to do something similar. Or you could buy an in cowl muffler (JTec, etc.), and use silicone tubing to route the exhaust out the bottom of the cowl.

Thanks for the help Ernest. I went with a pitts style mufler. Was able to sneak it inside the cowl. I'll tube it out the bottom. One after thought though, I wonder how long it will take to fill up with oil?? I think I will go with about 1 degree right with the motor.

Donnie it may be a little late. But I believe Slimline and I know Tatone or J-Tech make a muffler for an upright engine. You would just put it on and the pipes would go out the bottom. Good luck with your Waco. maybe some day I will get to mine.

I built one, I put a MDS 1.48 in it. What I did was cut off the rails and instal a firewall ontop of the balsa ring blocks, but it has no tank hole. The motor mount gets bolted to the 3/16 firewall and the firewall assembly gets bolted with blind nuts to the front of the nose. I will include the pictures to help describe it, but that enabled me to put the motor on it's side and the pitts muffler out the bottom, where it should be. The Engine package fit inside the cowl completely and the fuel lines pass through the new firewall to the tank compartment.

That is a bold aproach. I looked at my engine mounts and chicken out. I talked to my hobby store guru and thats what he would do. The bolted edgine mount ply answered how to get to the fuel tank. Great idea!!! If you read this,,,,, did you cover before you glued the head rest on? Can't decide. Heres a pic of the fuse.

I didn't glue the head rest on at all, I used one 4-40 screw at the front under the head pad and one counter-sunk near the tail. You can't see the front one and it's hard to see the rear one unless your looking for it. Man I wish I never sold that plane, and here's the pisser, I sold it for $300.00 motor and all, just short a transmitter! Talk about a deal for the LHS owner, he doesn't even fly it, go figure.
