Treker NCC-1701

Hi All,

I just finished my new Sig 4 Star 40, and thought you all might like to see it. I made a few modifications, but nothing real drastic. Just a few things to clean up the lines of the plane a bit. First off, I removed one bay per side on the wings, and then added rounded wing tips. Next, I extended the rudder 1 inch, and lastly I cut the canopy down to better match the height of the turtle deck. I covered it with Hanger 9 Ultracoat. The checker board pattern on the bottom is in the covering. I didn't want to go to the bother of cutting out all of those squares. It is powered by an OS .46 FX, and flies very smoothly. I think I understand a bit better now why people like these planes so much and keep building them over and over. I will be flying the wings off this one this summer. Let me know what you think of it.

Looks great! Enjoy it. I know you will. Just keep it away from the ground when your not landing. Personal experience

Let me be the first to congratulate you, splendid job. I'm glad you cut the canopy down, looks much better. You will be glad you checkered the bottom when it's up in the air.

If I didn't already have so many low wing planes, I would definitely build a 4*. Everyone seems to be having a blast with it.

I have both the 4*-40 and just got done with my SE. I have an HB.61 in the 4* and it cruses right allong. Does what you say and has desent ke's, unlimitted vertical. Rolls are not axial, because of the dihedral. The Somethin Extra is different, axial rolls very fast even on low rates, elevator response is very touchy. I have an OS .46 LA on it and it doesn't have the power that I want. The CofG is a bit AFT from were they want it and it flies fine. Just put a little down elevator when landing.

Of course my 4* is terribly nose heavy and needs some lead in the tail. I need to do that sometime. It will fly different then. I have an APC 11-8 on the HB.61. It screams , probably over 90mph on a straight away.

Nice! I especially like the wing treatment; the standard wing is just a *little* too long. Did you extend the rudder up or back?

What an excellent, creative covering job. You have a good eye for design! IMHO the pinstripe along the edge of the color border really gives it a classy look. Nicely done, sir.

I extended the rudder 1 inch in length only. The height is the same as the stock rudder. I was hopping that this would help the planes ability to knife-edge, but right now it has a nasty pitch to the nose when full rudeer is applied. I have heard that this is a problem with the 4 Star 40, so am not sure I will be able to tame it or not. I will just have to play with it a bit and see.

Thanks for all the positive comments on the covering job. I have gotten very positive feedback from other flyers out at the fields I fly at here in Minnesota. I am very pleased with how it turned out too, but it was kind of a challenge to cover. I learned a lot from the experience though.

HoLy Moly... you whack off both the ends of the wing's chamber.
did you take out the dihedral ??
i usually extend the rudder or vertical stab on mine, and
whack 1/2 the chamber on each wing tips.


the weak spot is at former #3 . i re-enforce the fuselage there
on all my 4 star. The weak point moves back to the later former
after every crash.lol
