Sig Hog Bipe - feedback?
Will be picking up my Sig Hog Bipe later this week. Any feedback on it's construction? Also considering a .91 for powerplant. I'll appreciate any info/opinions available.

Bakes, I think you will not get unlimited verticles with this kit. It has 2 big fat wings and a big fuse also. You will need a huge amount of oomph to go verticle. I would say with the 4stroker 91 it would fly great. But if you wanta bipe with unlimited verticle. maybe you should be looking at an Ultimate. The Hog bipe wansn't made for verticle flying.

RE: Sig Hog Bipe - feedback?
I have a couple of the Sig Pigs with a wide range of power sources. I have used .61 2-strokes on up to 1.08 2-strokes. My favorite was with a cheap Magnum .91 4-stroke with a standard master airscrew 14x6 4-stroke prop. It had unlimited vertical with 14oz of fuel. It wasn't a rocketship out of a hover, but it would hover and pull out vertical. This was a stock kit with no modifications.
I also built another that I modified and lightened and it was better. I added a canopy, left the rounded wingtips off and used the stock rudder and elevator wood without trimming it to get the biggest surfaces I could. It would fly better and 3D better than any ultimate of the same size. I have always wanted to try a Saito 1.00 in one, but have always been too cheap to spend that much when it flies great on a cheap magnum.

Any comments on landing gear? I've heard it's a bit on the weak side. Doesn't particularly care for "heavy" landings. Then again, I never cared for them either!

Great plane....When I flew a buddies of mine I had to get one.
He had a Magnum .91 4s. I put an OS .91 4s. You have to be careful not over power it to much...If you do over power it, CHECK your elevator hinges...I had two break.
I have since replaced them AND added a monokote hinge.
I fly mine like it was a Pitts....I snap the hell out of it. It flat spins great.

RE: Sig Hog Bipe - feedback?
I did a search on this site for info on the Hog Bipe because I just got the kit 2 weeks ago. There is one with a few pics and one of them is powered by a Saito 100. I think I will be using that for mine, but am still in the decision stage. After all, it is still in the box, and I am a real slow builder.

I fly mine with an OS94 4 stroke. Its a great plane to build and fly. I did a few mods on mine and I won a trophy with it at our club's static show. There's a picture of it on the Fubar Hill site

Already checked out Fubar Hill.........very inspirational! I've got to say, this forum is awesome! Where else can one get all the feedback one can stomach with the push of a few keystrokes.

My Hog has a 100 Saito and it will hover but not much reserve power. Who says they are not made for vertical flying? It does all aerobatics with authority, vertical and horizontal.

RE: Sig Hog Bipe - feedback?
Flying off of a grass field I wanted ruggedness so I tried the latest version(curved) of the Dubro GRP 60 size landing gear. It works great, has lots of give, and looks good. I fly with a Saito 91 and am very happy with performance. While vertical ability is exciting I'm not sure why a lot of vertical is desirable for a plane whose real strength is its traditional look and feel.

RE: Sig Hog Bipe - feedback?
The mods I suggest are pull pull elevator AND rudder. Glassing both wings wider than the fuse and of course dual aileron servos. I fly a .91 OS four stroke. It will hover if you concentrate but not low. It will provide a nice upright (almost about 30 degrees nose down) flat spin on command and easily recover. You definitely need a shock mount. Its the shark bipe on page four of fubar hill websits.
