Default Top Flite Giant P-51 Question?

I am building the Top Flite 1/5 scale P-51 (the kit, not the ARF). The instruction book says that the spinner back plate must be 7-7/8" from the firewall. However, the measurement on the plan is different than that. According to the plan, at 7-7/8" the spinner back plate would end up inside the cowl 1/4" behind the nose ring. Anyone know which is correct? I'm leaning toward the 7-7/8" because the ABS cowl seems to support that, but I'd like to see if anyone else has encountered this.
