Default Aileron servo mount on 4* 60 question

Having crashed my Venture 60 (darn you Bruce for no new production ), I am building a 4* 60. The plans mention a shim when mounting servos on basswood beam for the ailerons. It says to "lay the servo down on the shim...". I'm unclear about the purpose of the shim. Is it to create a space between the servo and mounting beam, or to lift the servo up on its side for height above the hatch?

I think the latter. I could do it the way I think it should go, but I'm the type that follows directions (even ones that confuse me late at night).

Thanks

Default RE: Aileron servo mount on 4* 60 question

The shim is for clearance from the hatch. At least that's how I read the instructions. Good luck with your 4*, mine flies super.
