Why thank you Scotty (if you don't mind being called Scotty). I have always held to the philosophy that one picture is worth a thousand words.

Hiya guys ! Thanks so much for the great inputs. As I have decided on the red and white color scheme, now I need to buy a few rolls of covering. Just to be sure on the quantity I need, could you guys help me to estimate how many rolls of red and white that I need, taking into account that I am a first time builder and may make mistakes along the way !................

Wow! I haven't bothered to read this thread, since I'm nowhere close to covering my 4*60 yet. But man, Minnflyer, my hats off to you on the outstanding illustrations!

I'll just add a couple of tips:

1. For the very narrow trim strips, I use the trim solvent first to "tack" on the strips of monocote, then go over with an iron to activate the adhesive fully.

2. On overlaps, always try to lay on lighter color monocote first, then darker color.

Default 4*

I built and covered a 4 Star 60 for a friend of mine. The top is red and white and the bottom is bright yellow. Very good contrast in the air. He had a Saito 80 on it and it was a very nice flying plane. I clipped the end bay off each wing half when I built it and that made it a little more nimble in flight. He crashed it due to radio troubles. Too bad, it was a nice plane. Here is a pic.

I don't have a picture of the bottom... It was all solid yellow with the big "fourstar 60" decals on it it. Looked pretty nice. If the plane was still around I would take a pic for you.

Although I copied it from Robotech's design (imitation is the highest form of flattery) I'm still proud of it . Buz^

Dude, what I want to know is, how to you tell nose from wingtip when it's flying?

WOW, it sure looks sweet, though!

Thank you all for the nice words.

Great scheme Buz^. My biggest fear of doing a tiger stripe scheme is the fact that if it ever goes down in the weeds, it has built in camoflage! These things can be hard enough to find when they're NEON COLORS!!

Default Color Scheme Program

The program Flatfour has found in the above post is probably the best tool to use for determining color schemes on any plane. Thanks Flat !

I have three of Faye Stilley's books and he uses monokote exclusively,or he did when he wrote the books.
The books are very good, incidently.

He uses Monocote exclusively. I have one of his books and quit frankly this man is the master when it comes to covering with film.
Just my 2c worth. Jollyroger

Here is a picture of my Four Star with the canopy trimmed, the turtledeck sheated new wheel pants and a Saito 100 in the nose.

When completed, it was two ounces tail heavy , so I put a two ounce flywheel in back of the prop nut so now not only is it balanced just right, I also get a awesome idle, can go down to almost 1600 rpm without the engine loading or quitting, truly sounds like a well tuned Harley.

Pami, are you using the stock aluminum gear ? I changed mine to a Dubro fiberglass gear and it works great.

That sure is the stock aluminum gear, I have changed the wheels to sullivan wheels and they are great. Now I will also change the aluminum gear to the fiberglass, will be not as whimpy. the stock one is a little too soft.

I threw the stock gears, main and tailwheel, out of my window . I installed the sullivan tail gear with excellent results
