Your plane looks great! I'll rebuild the plane eventually. I put so much time in to it i want to take a break from it to build some other kits and also a couple plans builds for plans my wife bought for me.

Can anyone shed some light on if any of the latest Decathalon kits have been up-graded with marked parts? Also is the wing made in 2 parts that can be taken apart for more easy transporting? Not to many people want to buy a box of unmarked sticks. How about the plans & instructions...are they good & easy to use? Thanks Capt,n

I just purchased and received a Dynaflite Super Decathlon kit. This will be the second one that I will be building. I have built a lot of giant scale kits over the years (30) and I like this kit. No, the parts
aren't marked, but everything is easy to identify as you progress through the building process. The plans are good, as is the instruction manual. The wing is a two part wing.

The kit builds tail heavy. I have a pte 36 engine in mine and still needed lead up front zip tied to the standoffs. If I were to build again I would look at installing my servos up front rather in the rear of the plane. Might have been able to eliminate the front lead.

Hey modeler re you still flying that dynaflite super decathlon with the quadra 42? Was it very fast.
Did you have to add any weight to the tail? Or did i ballance o.k.
I am just starting to build one. I have a quadra 40 & a 42. But i hear most guys use 25cc or 30cc engine. Pleas emailme [email protected] thanks frankie

I went with a pte 36 in mine and still came out tail heavy and had to attach weight to my engine standoffs to get it to balance right. I had a mvvs 26 on mine for the first engine and it wasnt near enough power and had to switch over to the pte 36. Depends on weight I wouldnt worry about the 40 size. The decath is a pretty heavy plane.

i have been watching this thread. i too have the dynaflight super decathlon kit. i was going to sell it but i saw on you tube. you tube stefan pointer pilot decathlon 107. wher he knife edge flys his black & white decathlon & other manuvers. awsome. it exited me to build this kit..
i will use a dle 30cc engine. also on u tube is other decathlons with differen engines. one or 2 have us engines quadra 40. in them a bit of an over kill for me. but i have 2 us engines quadra 40's for sale at a discount price if anyone wants to go that route. [email protected]

Hey Frankie,
im sorry that I didn't reply sooner, but here it is for what it's worth.
i have a Quadra 42 in my SD. It's not overly fast because it is a heavy build and a really draggy airframe. It flies quite realistically and it will do all the basic manoeuvres like the full scale. When landing, don't try to float it in. Keep in some throttle and fly it down to a wheel landing. I haven't flown mine for a few years now because I'm in the Middel East working most of the time, but I'll try again this summer time permitting. I forget how much mine weighs, but I must have posted it here somewhere.

Those wheel pants should work real well in grass. I have mine covering half of the wheel and am flying off grass and it is like putting on the brakes when I land.

yes I left them high for the grass landings,have several landings in the grass and have yet to rip them off, just hate wheel pants that fall off in the grass so i raised them up and put 3.5" tires not scale but they work great and still get the look.

If I were you I would go with a larger engine then the 30cc. This plane is pretty tail heavy and will need extra weight up front so you might as well add weight with power. I have a pte 36 in mine and still had to add weight up front.

I only used one servo for both elevators and flying weight is at 14 lbs with saito 1.80 it has plenty of power, more than a one to one ratio, When I built it I knew it was a tail heavy airplane. I changed a few things like eliminating the extra servo for the elevators and use light weight fishing wire for tail supports and put throttle servo on the nose.

Would a DLE 55 be overkill on the Super Decathlon? Would it even fit? I've been thinking of building one but the DLE 55 is the only engine I have that's looking for work right now. I've not read this whole thread yet, so my apologies if this question has already been addressed. Any comments anyone?

I would think the 55 would be too much. My 30 cc is perfect power but more nose weight was need. I would think a 40cc size would be ideal weight wise and the power would be insane. This is usually a 14 to 15 lb plane.
