RE: Tower Hobbies Fun 51 Kit
Good fun build. Since it is a profile, be SURE to build the fuselage straight. Best to reinforce the main landing gear area with some sandwiched in plywood. Also a good idea to replace some of the long internal fuselage balsa sticks with some spruce or basswood of the same size.
Flying: Doesn't glide dead stick extremely well, but if you keep the speed up by a steep decent and then flare at the last second it handles it acceptably well. Be prepared to rebend the gear if you pancake. Not an issue if you used the ply reinforcements. Builds up your arms too!
Good stunt plane, but not really for 3D; too short coupled. Use a 3.75 or 4 pitch prop to keep the speed down to avoid flutter.
There are better profile planes for 3D work, but this one is an easy cheap build and you can get some good experience with it. Photo is of the Tower Extra Special, virtually idential kit.
