RE: Sig clipped wing cub
Look at the thread above, "which size .40 Cub", in this section. I've built the 1/5 scale Cub, but built it as a full span. The only difference is that the clipped wing is two bays shorter on each wing on the root end. It has a higher wing loading, slightly poorer glide ratio, faster landing speed, faster roll rate, better aerobatic performance than the full span, but builds exactly the same way. It's a laser cut kit, instructions are fantastic; there is a lot of pre-cut and tabbed pieces that fit perfectly, but when you open the box, it's all sheet balsa and sticks--a true builder's kit with a lot of potential. I'd recommend a .70 range engine (4-stroke), but a .56 would fly even the clipped wing. Mine is a .65 Saito, it will turn a scale (14in.) prop. A .72 Saito will fit inverted completely within the cowl, scale gear is available from Robart, and sometimes from William Wallace, he only builds them part-time. Both sets are about $100-$110, well worth it if you want a functional gear that really enhances the scale of the plane. The wing builds in two pieces, makes transport easy. Mine came out to about 9-1/2 lbs., but mine is modified a good bit, the mfg. listed weight is 6-1/2 to 7-1/2 lbs. You'd not be sorry you got this plane, but I'd recommend that it not be the first, or even second kit you build.
