Balsa USA Stingray 1.20...anyone built or flown?
I'm contemplating building the B USA Stingray 1.20 as a test bed for a weedy conversion engine. It's got just the right wing area and is advertised as 8 1/2 - 9 lbs (light!). Has anyone built or flown this plane? I will probably beef up and maybe enlarge the front section for the larger & heavier engine.
The weedy is a Ryobi 26cc 4 stroke converted to glow...engine weight is about 3lbs.
Thanks
Gary

No problem Gary. I was considering the Stingray at one point but decided to go with a Ryans Rebel. I just got the plans a few weeks ago. Not sure when I will get to it. Good luck, and let me know how the Stingray flies.

I have one. Moved the firewall back 2" during construction, mounted the ruder and elevator servos in the rerar and have a homelite 25 mounted on it. Still need to finish covering it.

tedster,
That Stingray of yours is lookin' good. Have any idea how much it weighs? Does it need much beefin' up?
Thanks for the pic and info...

Only two things I beefed up were the firewall (extra tri-stock) and the area in the tail section where I mounted the servos. Here I just added 1/8 ply doublers in the area of the servos. I also added an access hatch for battery relocation purposes if needed. I don't have a weight at my current stage. last time I weighed it, she was 10 pounds. But, I didn't have the muffler mounted or radio/btteries installed. I am guessing around 12 - 12.5 final weight. The homelite is pretty heavy. There is another member at our field with an identical setup only he is flying an echo 21. he is around 10.5 pounds.
Good Luck,
Ted

tedster,
Thanks for that info...12lbs on 1200 sq in is not too bad wing loading. I was originally looking for a parasol winged plane like the Aircamper or Mighty Barnstormer, but can't find plans for the size I need. Now I'm looking at the Stingray, Bridi Old Timer, and Ryan's Rebel. The Stingray is nicer looking than the others.
