Once I get the mounting figured out, I'll be glad to. My thinking is to mount the rudder and elevator servos in the tail section in front of F6, with just the servo arms extending out of the fuse. I was leaning towards a pull-pull setup on the rudder, but I decided to just go with one 4-40 rod for each.

I don't know any of the clubs near Richmond, but if you're in the NoVA area, feel free to drop in at our field...directions are on the website.

well - i haven't flown mine a lot - dam wind here in VT has been brutal - but i did re-cover the bottom of the wing. i used safety yellow ultracote (non-transparent) with one wide blue stripe on each end. i haven't had it back up in the air yet, but i can tell already that the visibility will be MUCH improved. i also put the white and blue decals on the top and that contrast with the red helped quite a bit too. i'll have to get some film developed and post some pictures. hopefully the improved visibility will allow me to progress some more with the plane. i really felt handicapped but not knowing what the attitude of the plane was half the time (funny how that works heh).

i've also been experimenting with different props. started with a 13 X 9 which was fine, then tried a 14X6 which seemed quite a bit faster and also tended to hit the ground on landings. now i'm usuing a 13X11 and the power with this setup seems unbelievable. i thought i was going to pull the tail feathers off the thing the first time i ran the engine up with this prop. with the saito .91 and any of those props there is plenty of power for whatever i would want to do. i'll probably stick to the 13's as i don't really need any more speed.


i think you're really going to like this plane chuck - you'll have gobs of spare power with that engine. are you going to build another one bo?

Well...here's the pics of the tail-mounted servos...not great pics, but I'll take more if you're interested.

Since this thread seems to be rapidly transforming into THE Venture 60 thread I think I'll post my query here...

I'm currently building my own Venture 60 kit. I'd just got to the point where I'd cut the single servo housing into the left and right root ribs and had epoxied the wing halves together. Well, just yesterday my Darling Wife (tm) let slip that she's purchased me a Futaba 9CAF with 5 S3004 servo's for Christmas (I KNEW I'd married the right girl!) Weyhey, dual aileron control and flaperons are now in my Venture's future!

The question is what to do with the existing servo bay that's cut into the wing saddle? My inclination is to reinforce the missing part of the center rib(s) and sheet over the servo cut-out leaving just enough space for the twin servo leads to exit. Does this sound like a good idea to everyone, or am I worrying too much (i.e. could I get away with leaving the center servo bay open?)

Neil...I think your proposed solution will work out just fine. I'd use fiberglass cloth/epoxy for the center rib reinforcing if I were doing it on mine.

here is the bottom, recovered with non-transparent ultracote with blue stripes added. as you can see vs. my earlier pictures - the visibility is GREATLY improved. it's nice actually being able to see the attitude of the plane when you're flying it

Has anyone sheeted the front part of the wing on the Venture 60?

If so, can you use the inner ribs as a template as you can on a 4 Star 40?

Should I go with a Sullivan tail wheel assemble or use the stock set up ?

I like the Sullivan unit myself... My V60 had the stock setup and it worked fine... Do you already have your kit? Bruce is out of them and doesn't know when he'll make more...

It doesn't show the bottom, and I don't have a photo of it, so I'll describe it. The bottom of the fuse is bright red from nose to tail. The bottom surfaces of the wing and the horizontal stab are striped bright red. So there's no difficulty in discerning whether the plane is inverted or not. Believe it or not, the the white appears fairly gray at higher altitudes...similar to the Sig Kadet LT-40 trainer, which is almost all white.

Chuck, by the way, how did your Venture 60 CG come out with rear installed servos. Mine seems to center out OK for CG, but I haven't flown it yet.

I have it balanced at about 1/8" behind CG indicated on the plans. I see you sheeted the LE and the turtledeck. Nice looking plane! What's the shape on the tail?

Did you clip a bay on the wings? I didn't clip the wings because I wanted to keep the wingload down. If I'd used a lighter engine like a Saito 91 I would have clipped them. Besides the aft mounted servos, I built mine stock.

A guy in the club I belong to built a 4*60 and it made a "thrumming" sound when it flew from the engine vibrations resonating through the fuse. Really weird sound. So I used a Dave Brown soft mount for the engine, to keep vibration down. The engine shakes a bit, but it's isolated from the rest of the plane.

hello all -

it has been 7 years since i started this topic, and it has been almost that long since i have messed around with airplanes. kid is in college now (actually nearly finished), and we are settled in down in florida now, so i figured the time is right to make some balsa dust. i picked up another venture 60 kit back when bruce ran his last batch, and it has been sitting on the shelf in the garage since then. i figure that it was such a good flier, that the venture girl would be an ideal bird to get the thumbs working again.

a lot of stuff has changed since i have been in the hobby. love seeing the spread spectrum gear and no friggen freq pins! i have my eyes on a futaba 7c faast. that should end up being a nice upgrade from my old 6 channel skysport radio! i have my old irvine .61 engine (recovered from my last crash), and i tried to fire it up. unfortunately, it has a lot of damage, and even though i could get it running, i am not happy at all with it. so, i went ahead and got a supertigre .61, and had fun harassing the neighborhood and burned a gallon of fuel through it.

as to building the venture, i see there has been a bunch of pretty killer builds on the forum, and so my design changes are definately influence by what i have seen here! i really liked the racer hot-rod look that the soft balsa cowls bring to her, and definately wanted to raise the nose sheeting to add more profile area to the plane. so that's the plan .... my setup

supertigre .61
probably swing a 13-6 prop
futaba 3152 servos all around (throttle probably a 3004)
aileron servos in the wings
rudder and elevator servos in the tail - my last one balanced nose heavy
inverted engine fits the best
lower the fuel tank as much as possible
built up balsa cowl
raised and radiused nose sheeting
sullivan tail wheel
wheel pants

here are some pics of the progress so far. wings built, fuse assembled, cowl built and going through sanding and general putzing. this was my first cowling attempt, and it came out ok. i wanted a more rounded nose than what i got, but i sure know what to do next time! i might be able to spice it up more with an air intake on the nose, i am sure i will give something like that a whack!

here you go, looking forward to getting this thing in the air, and it is good to be back on the forum.

Wow, talk about resurrecting a thread I like the balsa cowl, seems to blend in well. It's difficult to transition from a round spinner to a square fuselage, but yours looks very nice. My Venture has a FG cowl and rudder servo in the rear with an ST .61. It seems to balance a bit tail heavy. You might want to do some preliminary balancing to see what yours comes out like. Here's a shot of my cowl. Enjoy the build, it's a great plane.

thanks yel914, i like what you did as well! I was looking for pictures of my old plane and found this thread still kicking around. I had to laugh, 8 years ago seams like a lifetime ago. In that timeframe i moved my family from england, to tappahannock virginia, and now live in st pete florida. i hope we will stick around for a while somewhere!

no building today, but did start to scratch my head. I think i screwed up a bit, and could use some advice. Take a look at the pictures ... My engine is a 2 stroke supertigre .61 and it is inverted. the drawing is accurate enough for eyeballing the layout.

Someone had mentioned a valve for the fuel line to prevent siphoning? and details on where to find one?
how good are these things .. meaning can i move the tank further up above the carb with a valve so i have more fuel line routing options?

Definately could use some common sense feedback on install options - forgive the pics ...

1) Tank layout in reference to the thrust line and carb location
2) Picture showing firewall holes so i can visualize fuel line routing
3) Alternate view ... is this orientation at all acceptable?
