Sig 1/4scale C/W Cub build

RE: Sig 1/4scale C/W Cub build
While I'm waiting for everything else I need, which is basically a weighted spinner (getting one made from brass at work), I decided to add a few more graphics. These are more window dressing than anything, but I still think it adds a lot to the overall appearance.
I did run a couple tanks through the engine and took it out for a taxi test on our street, couldn't resist that. My neighbor wanted me to take off, jokingly of course. He's building a full scale RV8A, so I want him to take off from our street!
Anyway, here is a shot of the graphics from Callie-Graphics. It looks like she does a really nice job! Thanks Callie!

Stand a few feet back and you won't know the difference! I am making a fuel control knob, not finished yet. Just keep tinkering..... and tinkering... and tinkering.....

RE: Sig 1/4scale C/W Cub build
Got the batteries charging, double check everything, got a videographer lined up.... I just might go for a maiden tomorrow!
That's strange... my hands are starting to shake and I have a funny feeling in the pit of my stomach. Is that normal?
Oh! One more thing. You guys might get a kick out of this. You know that Stinson I just bought? The wings and tail surfaces are already built, right? Well, as I was straightening things out today, I decided to take another look at the thing while I was cleaning around it. I picked up the wings to carry them out and started to look at them a little better. The wings... yes they're built... as long as you don't mind two LEFT WINGS! [X(][:@]
I'm wondering what was going through the guys head when he built this. May never know....

So, first of all, let me address the issue of the "Two Left Wings": The guy who sold it to me, a good friend, had two of these planes both partially built by two other guys. You still with me? So he had two sets of wings. He just mistakenly gave me two lefts. I stopped by his house after flying today and we've got it straightened out. We're good to go!

Now, on to the good stuff!!!
She flies!!!Whomever was afraid I might not have enough power need not fear any longer. It was off the ground in less than five feet! And to get a good scale looking flight required about 1/4 throttle. I had my buddy, John D, take it up for me the for the first flight just in case. He's got a lot more experience than do I.
After trimming it out, which took about two or three clicks down and several clicks right aileron, it flew hands off great! It's a big puppy dog up there. I think I do have a heat issue though, which I was warned about, because the engine died on me about.... eh.... five minutes into the flight. I returned the controls back to John to dead stick it. He doesn't have anything invested in it so he was cool and calm, I on the other hand was a bundle of nerves, especially after 2-1/2 years of work!!! I think he probably could have thermal-ed it awhile because that thing floats. He got it down safe and sound.
So now I've got some work to do. Modify the cowl, stiffen my suspension, fix my fuel fill line (can't de-fuel it), make some wing covers.... Hmmm... did I miss anything?
I should have a video to post early next week when I see my fellow employee and videographer back at work. He's got a really good camera, but this was the first time he's used it so we'll see how it comes out.
Think that's it for now.
Take care,
David

Now that David has completed and flown his Cub someone else needs to step up and keep this thread alive,
David did a good job of it for at least a couple of years
This thread was my 1st build tread and my 1st attempt at adding details to a plane. Looking back at it now I ask myself why did I do this and why did I do that but you have to start somewhere. Hopefully this thread continues to serve guys building the wonderful Sig 1/4 Cub.
Later!!
Anthony

And thank you Anthony for starting this thread and inspiring me to do what I did! I still need to post my maiden video. Don't expect much in the way of flying though. My videographer... well... new camera... never shot video of planes before... getting the picture?

I have a clipped-wing on the board. The fuse, tail feathers, landing gear, and cowling are built. I don't know
how to post pictures though my brain is too small.

RE: Sig 1/4scale C/W Cub build
I agree with you Anthony. This has been and continues to be the definitve thread for the Sig Cub. If your willing to read, every aspect on how to build this bird has been covered with narrative and pictures. Each builder here all put their own spin on their Cubs. It's time for someone else to step up to the plate! And you started it all thank you!

RE: Sig 1/4scale C/W Cub build
Hey guys, guess what! I finally have a maiden flight video! The actual flying part was cut short due to the inexperience of the new equipment my videographer had. He didn't know how to use the eye piece and therefore lost track of the plane shortly after take-off. But the important parts are there.
P.S. You are welcome to watch all of his other videos, the Time Out, Colonoscopy Dynamite, etc.

I dont know if you are interest or not but I have been using the childs sleeping bags that you can get from wall mart or where ever quite cheap.. They come in a variety of colors. My wife even managed to find a set that are yellow.. Almost Cub yellow. They fit the wings if they are two piece.. They are a lot cheaper than wing bags and they protect very well...

Excellent idea Ken! In fact they have a "Hello Kitty" for $14.86! [X(] NOT! Looks like it might be the Ozark Trail for $14.47.
Thanks for that one Ken!
