Default Lanier Giles 202 35%

Hello, Just wondering for anyone that has built this kit. On the two canopy parts, C1 and C2 the instructions are not making it clear on the offset. They say to offset these parts by .50 to .60 or about 1/16. Does this meen that parts C1 and C2 should be bigger or smaller than the parts they mate up against?? Most kits and planes that I have built have this part larger and the clear canopy extends back over the turtle deck and front deck. Thanks for your help. Hooker53

The canopy parts should be smaller by approx 1/16" or the thickness of the canopy material. That way the top of the canopy will fit flush against the top of the turtle deck.

Hey Thanks P-39 for answering my post. I was wondering if anyone saw it!!!! Ha. Ha. I resolved this a few days after the post. I have always liked the type of canopy fits that has the canopy coming back over the turtle deck by a 1/4" or 3/8" and the same in the front. I decided to screw the canopy to the hatch cover so I could get back into it if ever needed. Tell me about yours and the set-up. How did it fly???? Thanks again. Hooker53

Mine flies awesome. I've got a Fox 4.2 in it usually running an MSC 24x10 prop. She lands really great... but keep a bit of speed rather than stalling her in. Once you set up the glide path for landing she'll float right in. I've got pull/pull with two servos on the rudder and only one servo on each aileron and elevator.

She's a fun plane to fly. I covered mine like Gary Wards real one from Georgia. Red/white and black. The black checkerboard on the fin, elevators and wing are pretty cool.

p-39 Thats good to hear about the good flyer!!! Can you post photo's??? Mine will have a 80cc twin under the cowl. Can you say "throttle management"?? Ha Ha. I thought about doing mine in the same colors as what is on the kit box except in Mat dark blue and peril white or mabey Mat tiel and peril white. I'v just fin. putting the hinge angles on the elev and stab. I know the plans showed only on the elev. but I put some angle on the stab as well. As you can tell from the photo I think I will have enough throw. Whats the servo line-up in yours. I have brand new HS-5645's for everything and I may go a little heavyer on the Ail's. Later Roy

The throw looks good. And you'll have plenty of power with the twin 80.

Here's a link to the plane...

I'll have to check which servos are in there. I's three summers old and while I check them, I don't remember which are in it.

p39, That is one great looking G-202. One of the cleanest I'v seen. Did you build the kit?? I'm thinking of putting a BME 100 in it now. If I can work out the deal. It's lighter than the 80cc so what the heck. I would have to use alot of throttle Mgr. anyway. I would want to stay away from the p facter abit though. I will post some photo's of mine when I get a few things covered. My biggest prob, is I'm running out of hanger room. Ha. Ha. Thanks for all the help. Roy aka Hooker53.

Yup I built it myself. All the black checkerboards "squares are different sizes and shapes. I made a pattern with some rubylith and then scanned those into the computer and cut out the shapes with Ultracote on a vinyl cutter.

A BME 100 would be awesome in the plane. The Laniers are built strong anyway. That rudder is pretty darn effective too.

You know, of all the kits and scratch built models I have done down though the years this is my first Lanier. You are right it is drawn up good. I did do a few changes in mine like instead of the spruce 1/4" in the wing I used balsa with carbon fiber ribbon and the newer little tricks we can do now a days. I don't think I will have it ready for the Joe Nall but I will be there anyway!! Have a good one and thanks for the post. Hooker53

Was in the shop this morning working on my 36% Katana hooking up fuel lines and kill switches for the DA100. Checked on the Servos in the Giles... Hitec 945s on the elevators. Ailerons have Futaba 9402's and the Rudder has a pair of Futaba 9151's.

Here's another shot. You'll probably notice that the 5" spinner is gone. I blew two of them off in three days. Was pretty nervewracking. Not to mention a little expensive. I traced the problem to a couple of glue joints in the motor box not being glued and setting up a nasty vibration and shearing off the long spinner bolt.

I've got a B&B smoke pump in it and that's why on a fast shutter speed shot the smoke is in "puffs." In real life, you can't see the individual puffs...

Man I'm glad you found out what was blowing them off. Yes---I'll bet you did feel kinda broke after looseing three. You know I got Finished with the tail feathers on my bird last night and started looking at what was next. I knew in the back of my mind I have not seen anything in there about right thrust or offset. Sure enough I have looked my drawings over Sev. times and there is nothing on there nor in the instr. Man abot it. Are you running any kind of right thrust or is this less of a thing on the biger ones??? Sounds like you are not far off from maidening a Katana. Good luck with that. The last photo that you sent sure looked good with the big boy in a knife edge with the smoke on. Later and have a good week. Thanks again for all the help!!! Roy AKA Hooker53

I didn't add any right thrust. Mainly 'cuz it didn't say to do so. But I'm not flying 3d with the Giles. I'm thinking it would help with 3d flying 'cuz it's all post stall and the right thrust would help keep things straight at slow speeds.
