Default Sig SE Done!

I did not have a lot of confidence in my covering abilities, so I went for a plain cover scheme.

That is one brite bird. Covering looks good thoug. I am almost finished with mine. It has been half done for a year, and have been working on it the last 2 days and almost finished. I will probably cover it in the next few days. Let us know how the maiden goes.

PS. Are you going to paint the whell covers?

Yes I will paint them (waiting for a warm day). Will let you know how the maiden went, maybe I can take it up this weekend. I wanted to make sure I could see witch side is up, that's why I used such a brite colour.

Looks great. I like the covering. Sometimes "less is more".

Looks great! Good luck on the first flight. I needed a couple clicks of aileron on mine to fly hands off.

I maidened it the weekend. It was a breeze, no trim needed, not even one click! The only thing that went wrong, was that I lost the canopy after the 10th flight or so. The plastic bolt that held it broke off. I am 100% sure I did not over tighten it.

Good Job on the SE! I like the trans blue on the bottom, the colors go well together. I have never broken the small nylon bolt on my SE, but I did loose the small dowel in the back. I came in for a low-by and heard this weird noise, thought it was flutter. I landed and the canopy was half off, and had been flapping up and down. Were you able to find the canopy?

I looked for more than 2 hours, but did not find it. Looks like I will have to build a new one.

Boomslang,

I lost a SE canopy in flight once also. I had used a metal screw, that I suppose vibrated loose. Luckily I was able to find the canopy, after about a 1 hour search. After that, I began to cover the canopy screw with a small piece of multi task tape. I keep the the covering around the screw clean, so the tape can hold.

I think the fix for these canopies is to go to a larger (thus stronger) nylon bolt, with matching blind nut or threaded insert. I say this because I like the way the nylon bolts seem to be not as prone to vibrating loose. Another option is to ad a second hold down screw. Or, if you want to get fancy, use magnets.

Another thing to watch for with the SE (I've experienced this with my SE and Midstar) is that some play will begin to develop with the dowel hold down of the canopy. l know it's a cheap fix, akin to NASCAR tape (duct tape), but a piece of multi task tape across the back of the canopy and the turtle deck will help keep things in place. Then just peel it off when your ready to pack up.

I kept breaking the small 1/8 dowel that holds on the back of the canopy I have 2 thats is permantely rateling around inside my canopy I replcaed the dowel with .1/8 brass tubbing about 20 flights ago Looks like that did the trick.
