SIG SE and Sullian tailwheel question
Hi All,
I have installed a Sullivan tail wheel on my SIG SE. It is the 5 to 12 lbs version (2 to 5 kg). My question is which
of the springs should I use? The big soft one or the harder small one. Searching this forum I have seen pictures
of SEs both with the small and the large spring. The SE I have propably comes in at around 5.5 lbs (a bit heavy I know..).
Also while at it: Since I use a Saito 56 I will be using a 12-6 prop. Can anyone suggest a taller landing gear that is a direct
replacement (same screw hole layout) for the stock one besides the TNT one (Im in Denmark so not really easy to buy TNT).
Does Dubro make one for the SE or can I use one from a different SIG product?

RE: SIG SE and Sullian tailwheel question
Use the big one... Easy on servos... Be careful with weight in the tail... With a OS 46 on mine, had to add 2.5 oz of weight, remove the wires on the tail and substitute nylon fishing line and move the motor all the way forward. Hope to test fly it today...Fred123[&:]

RE: SIG SE and Sullian tailwheel question
I am running a .56 in mine with the stock gear and 3 inch light wheels with no problems. I fly off a grass runway. I also ran a 12-6 APC on mine but did not like it that much. I switched to an 11-7 and richened the high needle up a bit. I have much better midrange now. She is a good flyer, enjoy.

RE: SIG SE and Sullian tailwheel question
Thanks for all the replies. I think I will try the big spring first even though the smaller looks best :=). Im using a
quite strong rudder servo so I am not too concerned about it. I am more concerned about the rudder. Do you think
it is necessary to reinforce it with some glass fiber around the spring wire?
Hughes: You made me decide to try the stock gear. When the plane is level there is less about an inch clerance with
a 12-6 prop. I am using 3" dubro wheels. How fast does it fly with an 11-7? I want a docile plane that wont go to fast but
will have a lot of pulling power.

RE: SIG SE and Sullian tailwheel question
The .56 will give you that, docile. Speed was not increased a lot by running the 11-7 over the 12-6. The affect is noticed in the midrange, much better spooling , crispness if you will. Low speed on the deck passes pull up to steep climb was definitely improved over the 12-6 however, the .56 is not a power house. Definitely adequate but not unlimited vertical. With the 12-6 (clearance for gear was fine) I had slow speed and full speed but not much throttle in between. I truly love this plane, an extreme blast to fly. I like to do close to the deck moves and she fits the bill great.

Did any of you with a Sullivan tail wheel reinforce the rudder with glass fiber where the spring attaches to the rudder?
