RE: Great Planes .40 P51 kit build...
270win,
I will try to get some 'stick time' in when the weather cooperates here. The planes in the hanger are always on trickle and I have not sold off any of those or my field equipment. So far I have only eBay'd 3 Santo's and a Spit ARF from the hobby....
Thanks for the words of encouragement.

Man guys! I'm burned out on this model.... I'm really having a hard time getting motivated to finish it... I'm also finishing two other planes right now but I have no problem continuing to work on them...... Maybe I just need some time away from it.

I hear ya 270...
I just started painting and the temp went from 75 to 50.. not good painting weather... so.. Motivation is hard to come by. Stick time always motivates somehow!

My first coat of paint revealed a lot of imperfections which I was just going to sand and repaint, but when it got cold I decided to go back and sand some more.. I'm pretty close now...

You're right. I think it's also the fact that I've built this kit twice now to get this one plane. I'mjust tired of looking at it. I'm hoping to get some stick time this week.... but it's supposed to rain 5 days!!! Oh well. Maybe I'll finish the other projects first.
Your model is looking great Jeff!

Now I just need some Spring weather and time off from work so I can enjoy flying it!
I'm at almost the same point with an AK Models Sukhoi SU-26 kit I started a month ago. It's all framed up and ready for final sanding, and I can't seem to go near it. I'm hoping for some warmer weather so I can do the sanding outside. That might make it less of a "negative" for me and get me back into finishing that model.
Good flying,

First Good coat is done...
It is suppose to warm up some in the next few days so I will get my final Silver coat on then and then start Detailing.
Bob - What did you use to draw your panel lines?
Do you guys think Drawn panel lines look ok? or just leave them off?

Man, I have been out of this for a while and still havent drilled the dang holes!!! Oh well...
I was planning on drawing on panel lines too, but on monocote. I have decided that I will put in a full (or close to) cockpit. I will juggle the servos and make it all light. Its kind of neat how I sort of jumped righ in the middle of this thread and sort of noticed that everyone is bringing this project to an end. I will try my best and do this project proud. I owe it to this bow of wood as my first build.
Thanks for list- (reading?)

Personally I don't like the small details like panel lines or rivets on the smaller models. To me they make it too busy looking for some reason. But that's just me.

Jeff,
Are you asking me about panel lines? (I think I'm the only "Bob" participating in this thread....) If so, you're asking the wrong guy. (see post #500 in this thread) My Mustang is pretty much detail-free.
I think drawn panel lines look good on large models, but not quite right on models this size. They would have to be mighty thin to be "scale."
Your model is looking great; can't wait to see the finished product. When you get done, we'll all get together and head over to .270's shop to help him finish his...

Biton, I'm t-rex.
I have the Great planes P-51 also
When I got it, I originaly had a o.s. .46 FX.
It now has a Webra Speed .50 on it.
What an improvement. The Webra pulls
it real well. You will need a Brison pitts
muffler though.

It's not "flying weather" yet here in upstate NY, but I'm taking Friday and Saturday off to attend the WRAM Show and visit friends in the big city. http://www.wram.org

ANNNNNNNNNnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd...
I went Flying today... Played hookie and went to hang out and fly.. I got three flights in on my 4 star 40 and I am so bad at taking off with a tail dragger. Turns out that I have the exponential turned up 25% instread of reduced 25%. Oops.. dang.. Opperator error again
Funny how these planes always do what you tell them to!

Fortunately the weather here is usually pretty mild. Friday's forecast is 63 and sunny with light winds.... We pay for these mild winters in July when it's 97 and 80% humidity! That's when I try to stay inside and build...

RE: Great Planes .40 P51 kit build...
okay guys, what's the latest on your stang projects?
I'm going to get back on mine next week. I just test flew another airplane today, my Pica 182 and so now that it's good to go I can focus on the P51 for a while. March is usually too windy to enjoy flying much around here so I hope to get it finished soon.

Mine's hanging patiently from the basement ceiling... I fondled it today.
I spent the evening in the shop converting my old Great Planes ElectroStreak kit from a brushed truck motor and NiCads to a brushless motor and a Li-Poly battery. Its flying weight went from 38.75 oz. to 22.25 oz. AND it should gain power and duration. I'm very anxious to see how it flies. That's a pretty drastic weight change (over 40%). It really will be like having a new airplane.
I'm getting very anxious for spring to get here. I don't know why... it's always frustrating until about May when the wind finally dies down.
I want to fly!
Take it easy,

Hello everyone... Its good to hear from you guys...
I am in a wait patter until it hits 70. I can't get it warm enough to have the paint flow well so, I am goiong to wait until it is warm. We should be back next week hopefully! In the Mean time I have everything ready for the final coat of Silver and have all the markings planned and measured out as well as the paint colors mixed and ready. I also have a friend working on the markings for me and will have those shortly.. So.. when it warms up..
This last weekend we framed two houses in our parking lot for Katrina Victims in Miss. It went really well. We have about 15 guys going to Put it together in a few weeks to. Someone came up with a great plan to help and its working great. No Gov agencies.. just people helping people.

Rain rain go away.. Enough already... well Im sure the farmers need it!
Well.. I am almost ready to put the clear coat on. A few more details and then the decals and then the clear coat. It should turn out well. And since this was on the 5th page or something.. it was time to bump it up some... Ok men.. you can't be that busy.. how about glueing one rib.. just a rib... or maybe even just dust it off or move it around the shop and take a pic!
Peace...
Jeff
