Jwottowa, if you just bought this kit, could you do me a small favor ?? If you look at the parts sheet labeled "P516SO1" you will see the fin trailing edges and rudder leading edges ( total 4 pcs.). After you label the pieces, could you cafefully trace the pieces onto a piece of paper and mail the drawing to me ? My parts are badly messed up, not the same side to side, die cutting is beveled, ect. If you send me a PM with your full name and mailing address, I will cover postage.

Thanks... it's Chrome Ultracote/Oracover... rivets are made with a transfer wheel, weathering with airbrushed Createx Auto-Air water based paint.

Anyone know where I can find a set of Engine mounts for the Top Flite P-51 60 Mustang? I am rebuilding the ARF but do not have the engine mounts. They must be very long since the placement of the engine is far away from the firewall. Any help would be appreciated. I am assuming the mounts are the same as the kit.

Hey Bigtim,
My B is still flying!!! I don't fly it all that much to be honest but a few weeks ago I pulled it down, dusted it off and sorted out the gear issues I had. Have flown it a couple of times since then and it still flies great.
I've Just bought a electric gear door actuator from Hobby king and will be replacing the servo I have currently doing the job with this actuator because I have overload protection which means once the actuator reaches it's final location it shuts down stopping any current draw. should be much better than the servo I have doing it at the moment.
Good luck with your build!
Thanks
Dave

I pulled mine down finally and started the glassing of the fuse. After much deliberations over the cowl looking so funky, I created a template off the plans and matched it to the actual fuse and its only 1/8th" down, it just looks drooped nosed. However since its my first TF kit build, I made too many errors during the build so just going to live with how snoopy it looks and go with it. Princess Elizabeth will have a hook nose.
As for the inner wheel doors, I am leaving them off for the first few flights and revisit a hinging scheme once I am secure in its flying ability. Why waste the time if it flies like a one winged pegasus.

I was looking for this thread... I'd lost it. Sometime this winter I'm going to start my own P-51 and do it up as a B-variant. I have the Top Flite conversion kit for it and some LADO Retracts. But I have a couple other projects to finish first, so I'll just lurk around here.
Ticketec, I'll be interested in your installation and your opinion about the Hobbyking gear door actuator.

I guess I poked the hornets nest, glad to hear your P-51B still lives Dave that is a cool looking bird please post your results when you get too them, I have a gold edition B in my collection of kits but had resisted building that one.
but lucked out and purchased another one for building, I also have been sitting on a Malcolm Canopy made for this kit which is my favorite variant of the Mustang, this is a rather unique scheme,I am a bit partial to the OLD CROW scheme as well I found 2 different versions one with the tail fairing and one without not sure if there different planes or if it had a upgrade

bigtim: back in the 40's where a lot of the fighter jock's hung out in the officer's club there was a WISKY named OLD CROW
so MR. Bud Anderson wanted that name on his plane seeing that he was a very good pilot and shot a few of the 109's and FW's
and he kept coming home the name stuck (OLD CROW) and to day he still fly's the same name on his P-51 on the D model
