Call TF, much less expensive than to have someone copy theirs. I was quoted $120 to copy and make 2 sets from mine due to their size.

Hi everyone,

I need a little advice. I'm starting my own TF P-51D (B-conversion) and have two engines available; a OS 95AX and a Saito 1.25. My preference is to go with the 95AX because it will fit inside the cowl without too much to be cut away.

I was looking at the plans with the 95AX in hand and see that I cannot use the Bisson 9403 muffler that I had been planning on because most of it will poke through the cowl. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXKJD6&P=ML

What has anyone with a 95AX used, and how did it work? I'm looking to cut away as little of the cowl as possible.

My other option is the Saito 125 but it looks like I'll really have to knock some holes in the cowl for that one, so that's not my first preference. It's got a lot of nice power but the cowl will probably look like Swiss cheese when I'm done with it.

Can any of you point me to the area of this thread where these were discussed, or give me some free advice.

Thanks,

Bob

When I get around to building my TF GE P-51 I plan on using an OS 108 FSR with a jtec wrap around pitts muffler.

Here's the link: http://www.jtecrc.com/oswraparound.htm

Hi Quikturn,
Thanks for the reply. I hadn't thought of the J'Tec. That's a good thought. Have you matched it up against the plans to see if it fits OK??? I like that idea.

What's a GE P-51???

No matter which one you use, you will need some holes in it to keep it cool. I have a Saito 125 in my ARF but damaged the cowl in a crash with a 100 in it at the time, but the 125 is not much bigger.

No problem. I have not matched it up yet but I'll post a picture of it when I get home. I meant Top Flite Gold Edition (GE) P-51.

Here you go Bob,

The 108 FSR fits nicely. The 95 AX I think would be slightly smaller and fit better.

Go with the Saito 125 you won't be disappointed. Here's a couple pics of mine. I am using the Keleo Creations Exhaust. Nice and tight to the cowl.
Good luck with either motor.

I'm measuring 3 3/8 inches on the can and the exhaust header is 1/2 inch.

lfd47, thanks for that info. I see that the Keleo is in the same price range as the J'Tec. I have already put the J'Tec on order though. But that won't be the end of my scale efforts, I don't think. The 1.25 is NIB so it's not going to rust away any time soon and I'm itching to find a project to use it on as well.

I would have loved to have used the Saito in the Mustang but I would have had to chop away more of the cowl with the 1.25. Thanks for the heads-up. I've got that muffler bookmarked. It will get used in the future, for certain. Thanks again,

Bob

If any of you that have built this plane, and have made flights with it, would you feel good about using this servo (http://hitecrcd.com/products/servos/...i-servo/produc) for the ailerons ( one per aileron ), and one each for the flaps. I need to plan for, and buy my servos to start building the wings. What Hitec metal gear servo would work best for the rudder and elevator ?

Capriman , if your looking for a good servo use the hitech 645 they are
great servos for the bigger planes

I use the 645 for the tail of my 4*120. They do very well. The Futaba 3010 servos are also very good for the wings.

I've always used the 645's as well, but recently started using the Power HD 8309TG's. I love them for the price.

I mostly use Futaba s3004s but those 645s have over twice the torque so you shouldn't have any problems. Then again I do fly more scale like and don't do the 3D stuff.

Mike, those wouldnt be NEARLY enough for a GS warbird. These planes are fast and heavy. You'd be asking for trouble.

I think its more a case I fly smaller lighter airplanes. I don't have anything as big as his warbird. I do have the smaller TF 1/7 scale P-51D kit, TF Sea Fury kit, and a partially built TF .60 size Corsair kit with 4 s3004s installed when I received it. Do you think they will be up to the job?

Actually, I thought this was a GS thread, but now see its the 1\7 scale. They'd prolly be fine, but I'd still use something a bit more robust on the elevator. But that's just my opinion.

I used Futaba S3305s on the rudder and elevator. They're not much more expensive than standards, and have the advantage of higher torque and metal gears.

3004 will be fine for the ailerons, not the flaps though, you need more torque for those. They will work OK for rudder, elevator and throttle, but it is always a good idea to use more than you need for the tail. If you want faster ailerons, the 3010's are good, but its a warbird, so 3004 are perfect on the scale side.
