I don't know if it is the spruce stringers I added to the bottom or the sheeted tail surfaces but the dle 55 seems like it is going to balance this bird perfectly ! I ordered a mejzlik 20 by 10 3 blade prop so it will have prop clearance and I have reinforced the heck out of the fire wall . This is going to be wild to say the least , bet she takes off at 1/4 throttle lol !

The Stinker looks very nice! great job on it. With the DLE it should be a rocketship and fly very well. When I built mine I was only thinking about having enough engine which was as light as I could find (MT35cc) and it weighs about the same as a OS160. Thinking about it now, the DLE is comparable in weight to one of the "accepted" engines of its time to fly this bird, the Q35, which was light enough to manage the airframe. With the power of the DLE in the same weight range, it should have been a no brainer to use one.

That was my thought process as well , now I am just a tad worried about the wing ripping off in flight , lol . I had thought about making the bird electric but I just can't get past needing an engine with smoke lol !
BTW the plane had a Moki 180 in it with the previous owner and the engine box was a perfect drop in fit for the dle 55 with side exaust .

what I observed, was the wing configuration...not enough sweep in the lower to match the upper.maybe that is irrelevant, but,it might be a concern in acrobatics,as the airflows have to match, without creating vacuums between the wings

Anyone still building or flying any of these Midwest Pitts SS? I scored one of these kits and a Fiberglass Specialties cowl last spring and am wondering how some of these that seem overpowered and maybe overweight have played out over time. I have a Moki 2.10 and a Bisson pitts muffler for this one and it will likely be way overpowered. May rethink it and buy something else like a newer 35cc gasser for it. Will have to do some checking on weight. Will try to keep it light as possible for good flight characteristics. Anyway, just checking in. Hope post above found a construction manual somewhere by now.

I just got started today. Planning on a gasoline 2-stroke engine. I have lots of different engines to choose from, ranging from single cylinder 20cc--26cc with electronic ignition or 23cc--40cc with magneto ignition or 30cc twin to 35cc single with electronic. I've got all kinds of engine options.

I'll build it and use the engine that it takes to balance it.

I've built so far from Midwest
Giles 202 twice and have a 3rd here in the box
Extra 300s and have a 2nd in the box (an airfield tail this time)
Citabria.... and a 2nd here in the box
Cap 232 once
Have in the box and never built AT-6

They're TANKS ... and they all fly great. Mike did a great job with the design on all these IMO. I'll build the Stinker with weight in mind, especially trying to keep the tail as light as possible. Then it is what it is. Keep hanging HP on the firewall until she balances and go tear up the sky!
