Default LT-40 Kadet Taildragger Nearly Done

Well I'm kinda doing this backwards, Your supposed to build the trainer first and then proceed on. I started building this plane back in 1998(found the receipt in the box) and its taken me this long to get back to it. Its been a really enjoyable eqperience to modify this plane from what its supposed to. First thing I did was disassemble part of the wing I had built years ago to remove the dihedral from the wing. Hence the wing is now straight. I also made this one a taildragger and used some 1/4" nylon wing bolts to hold the bracket to the fuselage.

Unfortunatly I didn't think of it at the time but I should have modified it so I wouldn't have to use the elastics to hold the wing on.

You can actually see my other kadet hanging rom the roof in the top left corner.

Now all I gotta do is get up the willpower to work on my Extra 300S wing which is just about finsihed.

Should the CG be directly under the Main Gear?

The bashing of the kit looks great!!! CG should remain the same as the kit originally recommended. But placement of your gear should always be forward of the CG balance point. A good location to start with, would have the wheels even with the leading edge of your wing. The further aft you move them the more squirrelly it will handle. if you move your gear further forward and it will be harder to get the airplane off the ground.

Have fun and go burn some fuel!!!

Cheers,

Thanks for the tip. I did out the gear straight under the leading edge. So at least I didn't mess that up.

Hey Jonesy,

Looking at the picture of your LT-40 a little closer, I noticed that you have your wheels quite a ways out on the axles of you main gear. You may want to bring them closer to the aluminum gear since one good solid prang during a landing will probably bend your axles pretty good.

Just my 2 cents worth....

Yes this maingear bracket is very weak. Thanks for the tip.
