Default TF P40 - Bob Dively Interior kit

Has anyone had success with installing a Bob Dively cockpit in a TF GE P-40? It looks like a lot of important material will need to be removed to install the cockpit, it looks real tight to the fuse, as if it might weaken the structure with all the ply that will need to be removed to fit it in and it looks as if the installation of the interior cockpit kit will require a lot of re negotiating in the fuse to fit everything in. So before I have at it and try to fit it in ……… I welcome your thoughts, comments and suggestions to either make it happen or try something else.

Well, I am not there yet, but plan to install the same cockpit kit in my TF P-40. I was going to wait until the fuse was glassed before doing any major cutting. I have put the rudder and retract servo to the rear of the cockpit area, and the elev and throt servos in front of it. When the time comes I am going to remove the servo tray ( if needed, it might work as a new floor, I have not measured yet), and the original cockpit floor. Will leave just an approximately 1/4 inch wide rim from the original floor, if possible, for rigidity. If extra strength is needed I will look into maybe some stringers, or sump'n. The new floor can be made from ply if needed, and would act to box this area of the fuse as well as the removed original floor. In the end I don't think you would give up too much strength...

I did mine last and left enough of the ply around the edge of the cockpit as I could. The finished product is worth it.

For the servos, that was a 2 minute job, I simply epoxied in two rails behind the fuel tank and it worked out fine, I even managed to put the battery underneath teh fuel tank as well so the plane even balances better this way!
