Default G&P Sales PY-5A Catalina

I'm an avid lake flier and am now considering a winter project of the G&P Sales Catalina PBY-5A in either the 81" or the 104" size and would be most interested in anyone's experiences, opinions, etc. regarding these kits.

This is also posted elsewhere to get as many responses as possible.

Default RE: G&P Sales PY-5A Catalina

The only thing I have heard about these kits is that they are heavy. Very heavy. The fuses are polyester resin and fiberglass mat instead of cloth. The manufacturer states this is for strength, but they are one of the very few who build their fuses this way. Having done my fair share of wet layups, I can say that mat is very stable, but not IMHO, the best material for layups where weight is a concern.
