The large scale aerobatics people I've talked to like the Hitec. I've been using Futaba radio equipment, but I was planning on using the 635's (I don't know what that Karbonite is, but it should be between the nylon and the metal gears) on everything but the throttle. I'm also planning on a 6V receiver battery.
Make sure you didn't get a flutter. When that happens, it can damage other things (like your gears in your aileron servo) almost immediately.

You are running into the same problems that I did. As you can see, the geometry of the linkage is very awkward. I posted my solution to this problem.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

Can someone post a picture of their rudder servo. I am trying to mount it in the tail of the plane, but don't know how to run the linkage. My servo horn doesn't seem to line up with the control arm on the rudder. Maybe I need to move the rudder horn????

the name giles is pronounced with a "g" as in "gun" sound right.. not a "j" as in jelly?
i ask because i had the plane at the field one day and someone said "is that a jiles?" now im not sure.

That is not really a problem. That is an open section and you need to make a hatch for it anyway. See previous posts.

A simple access panel is all that is needed to mount the servo in the rear. I just made a simple stick frame for the open area on the bottom.

i have mine there. winglifts method is better, but the stock method is easier. i noticed the servo gets a bit dirty down there, just don't taxi over puddles and mud.

Personally, I pronounce the name, "Giles" with the sound of "g" being similar to the word "go" or "get". It just sounds Wimpy pronounced like a "j".
Anyway. Oh man. figured I'd update some of you guys. My Giles is coming along quite well. After a few month break, i'm about 40%-50% done the fuselage. Which is So exciting, I can barely stop thinking about it!

A thought just popped into my head...
Has anyone considered building a small amount of washout in the wing? If everyone's having tipstall issues at slow speeds, you'd think this would cure the illness.

Does anyone else have engine cooling problems with this plane? I am running a Magnum 91 two stroke and mine is getting hot. It happens after about a half tank. I may try a smaller prop and a perry pump.
This is one sweet flying plane. I really like the vertical with the 91 two stroke. This plane really likes to tumble.

Does anyone know where to buy a kit now that it's discontinued? I ordered the Lanier Giles, but I really wanted the GP model due to it's reputation.
I want this plane but not over $200 worth if I buy it one part at a time from the GP's parts department.
Oh, and to chim in on the pronounciation of the word, the staff at Lanier said "Jiles".
I'll call mine "Joe"

TJR,
I'll sell you my plane, built, covered like the box pic. I would sell just the airframe or include a Saito 100, Futaba servos & battery if you wanted.
Let me know.

TJR,
I did an internet search on the part number GPMA0238 and found a few online hobby stores that still have them listed. I dont' know if all of these that come up are really available though. Good luck.

RE: GP .46 Giles---Misc Stuff
Since I had this airplane before, few weeks ago I bought the die-cut parts of the kit from GP and some wood from Balsa USA. The total cost was under $80. Then adding up the hardware and other stuff including fiberglass cowl from fiberglass specialists, I think I will be below the $150.00. Not bad for a discontinued kit. But, before I build it, I am going to scan the die-cuts and save the templates for future building.

RE: GP Giles 202 40
My dad has built a GP Cap which was pretty much flying like the giles. I would recomend that were the control horn attaches to the rudder to use a piece of plywood instead of the balsa the manufaturer's gave you. My dad's cap went down in flames due to him doing a knive edge and the balsa broke apart from the force of the airflow. Good Luck.

RE: GP .46 Giles---Misc Stuff
If anyone still reads this, I finally finished mine a few months ago. I still need to tweak the receiver mounting and run in the engine, but I won't be ready to fly it until I get my thumbs back next summer.

PizzaMan,
Nice airplane. I will build my second Giles this spring. I lost my first Giles two years ago when it snap on approach after pulling too hard on the elevator. After the experience, I realized I was not ready for this type of airplane. Also, I was learning about setting up airplanes and now I know the setup was not right.
Nowdays, I am quite ready for this airplane and I will enjoy it very much.
Beware of the setup. There is a tech notice on GP website about the correct throws.
I saw the pull-pull setup on rudder and elevators. Could you explain how you did it?
Pedro
